Biochar is a product of the thermal treatment sustainably sourced organics or waste biomass, which enhances nutrient availability and exchangeable cations after soil application. feedstock one primary factors influencing in biochar soil-biochar mix. However, this influence not satisfactorily understood due to contrasting data among literature for cation exchange capacity (CEC) lack standard analysis methods CEC mixtures. Therefore, research was conducted assess mixes, where measured as (1) sum base (Na+, K+, Mg 2+, Ca2+) displaced by ammonium acetate (CEC-BC) (2) NH4+ potassium chloride (CEC-NH4+). For first time, we have evaluated CEC-BC CEC-NH4+ 21 different samples using modified method. We then used 12 representative biochars with 3 types (2% w/w biochar) provided insights on relative changes individual cations. Some previous studies indicated relationship between surface area degree additivity resulting mixes. our study demonstrates an absence these correlations products. found that prepared from mixed garden wastes can increase K+ Ca2+ loamy sandy soils mitigate potential sodicity problems soils. clayey may need specific purpose increasing Our results revealed hardwood retain deliver it acting sink source nutrients.

Soil degradation threatens global food security and environmental sustainability, necessitating effective soil management strategies. This review comprehensively examines the impact of organic amendments on quality productivity across various types climatic conditions. A significant research related to was performed using encompassed data from online search engines for studies published up until 31 December 2023. Despite their heterogeneity use varying methodologies, were narratively synthesized, providing a comprehensive understanding amendment-induced changes in chemical physical properties effectiveness restoration degradation. Organic amendments, including compost, vermicompost, biochar, pomace, are pivotal enhancing by increasing matter content, fostering aggregate formation, improving structure short term. They positively influence water retention capacity, pH levels, nutrient availability, carbon sequestration. In several studies, absent, indicating that effects vary depending texture, application rates, cropping systems, which emphasizes need tailored, sustainable practices. study concludes promising option improvement accumulation. Ageratina adenophora is an invasive weed species found in many countries. Methods to control the spread of this have been largely unsuccessful. Soil pH most important soil factor affecting availability nutrients for plant and impacting its growth. Understanding mechanisms influence on growth A. may help develop effective measures. Chenopodium quinoa Willd. (quinoa), a highly nutritious pseudocereal, is promising crop to address global food insecurity challenges intensified by population growth and climate change. However, drought stress remains significant constraint for cultivation. The plant exhibits several morphophysiological adaptations water conditions, including root system modifications, reduced rate, leaf abscission, stomatal closure. While these enhance tolerance, they can also negatively impact growth, potentially through alterations in architecture, physiological changes, e.g., regulations, anatomical changes. Different studies have suggested that soil amendment with biochar, pyrolyzed organic material, improve productivity under conditions. Biochar application the significantly enhances physiochemical characteristics maintains status, thereby promoting mitigating negative consequences of on production. This review focuses current understanding behavior potential biochar as management strategy. We summarize existing research applying biochar-amended alleviate stress.
