Desertification remains a critical global issue driven by climate change, unsustainable land use, and socio-economic pressures. This bibliometric review provides an in-depth analysis of desertification research from 1974 to 2024 using the Scopus database identify trends, key players, methodological advances. Publications grew exponentially during this period, 21 in peak 186 2023, demonstrating growing academic policy attention. The found that 4178 authors contributed 2004 peer-reviewed articles, with China emerging as leading hub, contributing 386 publications efforts environmental restoration projects such Great Green Wall. Advanced methodologies, including remote sensing geographic information systems (GIS), have facilitated large-scale monitoring, despite challenges data inconsistencies limited resolution. Institutions Guizhou Normal University Lanzhou led effort, publishing 316 124 publications, respectively. Influential journals, Land Degradation Development Journal Arid Environments, played role shaping discourse. Historical has highlighted persistent threat human societies, exemplified decline civilizations Sumerian Khorezmian. Despite significant progress, regional differences attention persist, Central Asia receiving its vulnerability. highlights need for standardized interdisciplinary approaches, enhanced international collaboration. By leveraging advanced technologies sustainable management practices, community can mitigate impacts desertification, promoting resilience ecosystems communities while moving toward degradation neutrality.

Soil ecosystems are under serious threat from microplastics (MPs), and this is causing worldwide concern. The relationship between soil MPs has become a popular research topic, the vertical migration of increasing interest. This Review summarizes current status into factors affecting MPs. Published shows that characteristics physicochemical properties affect infiltration process. organisms play key role in by acting as vectors or result adsorption. Dissolved organic matter metal oxides transfer adsorption-desorption. In addition, rainfall dry-wet cycles alter mobility MPs, leading to changes processes. Agricultural activities such tillage irrigation may distribute throughout topsoil. Vertical process influenced combination factors, these MP deposition needs be explored further.
