The small fruits from Empetrum rubrum were consumed by Native Americans in southern Patagonia. Two samples collected close to the Magellan Street and Beagle channel Tierra del Fuego investigated. Three different extracts berries analyzed, namely: methanol, phenolic-enriched (PEE) ethyl acetate (EtOAc). total phenolic, flavonoid, procyanidin anthocyanin content of was determined. effect towards metabolic syndrome-associated enzymes α-glucosidase, α-amylase pancreatic lipase assessed. In addition, antioxidant capacity measured using DPPH, FRAP, TEAC ORAC assays. composition determined HPLC-MS/MS. Seventy-one compounds identified for first time berries, including 10 anthocyanins, 35 flavonoids, 11 phenylpropanoids 13 procyanidins. main quantified HPLC-DAD. displayed strong activity as α-glucosidase inhibitors, with IC50 values ranging 0.10 0.19 μg/mL PEE 0.82–1.95 EtOAc extracts, respectively. results show high chemical diversity differences boreal species E. nigrum.

Abstract Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) contribute to major public health issues. Some studies have found that caffeic acid (CA) and phenethyl ester (CAPE) may effectively prevent or treat CVDs. However, there is a need sum up our current understanding of the possible beneficial detrimental effects CA CAPE on CVDs related mechanisms. Therefore, this study aimed summarize data topic. A methodical search was carried out key databases, including Pubmed, Google Scholar, Scopus, Web Science, from beginning June 2024. Studies were then assessed for eligibility based inclusion exclusion criteria. Treatment with significantly positively affected cardiovascular in various aspects, atherosclerotic diseases, myocardial infarction, hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, hypercoagulation state. Several mechanisms proposed mediate these effects, transcription factors signaling pathways associated antioxidant, cytostatic, anti‐inflammatory processes. several via multiple during prevention treatment promising only reported through vitro animal studies, which reinforces further evaluation human clinical investigations.

Continuing research is being conducted on novel preventive and therapeutic drugs for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Daidzein has shown potential beneficial effects regarding various CVDs risk factors. However, data in this regard are inconsistent, there an urge to accumulate. Therefore, we reviewed the of daidzein daidzin CVDs. We a search through Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, Web Science from inception up October 2023 find studies with primary intention assessing impacts disease vitro, animal, clinical settings. In vitro animal showed that effective terms reducing inflammation, oxidative stress, hyperlipidemia, myocardial infarction, thromboembolism, hypertension, aneurysms. only confirmed relatively small portion previous findings investigations, including anti-hyperlipidemic effects. conclusion, have reported most were unable exhibit same results. Hence, further required determine outcomes administering its derivatives extended period doses.

The Serra da Estrela Natural Park (NPSE) in Portugal stands out as a well-preserved region abundant medicinal plants, particularly known for their pharmaceutical applications diabetes prevention and treatment. This comprehensive review explores these plants’ botanical diversity, traditional uses, pharmacological applications, chemical composition. NPSE boast rich diversity with 138 plants across 55 families identified traditionally pharmacologically used against globally. Notably, the Asteraceae Lamiaceae are prevalent antidiabetic applications. In vitro studies have revealed significant inhibition of carbohydrate-metabolizing enzymes, certain plant co-products regulate genes involved carbohydrate metabolism insulin secretion. vivo trials demonstrated effects, including glycaemia regulation, secretion, antioxidant activity, lipid profile modulation. Medicinal exhibit various activities beyond antidiabetic, such antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-cancer, more. Chemical analyses over fifty compounds like phenolic acids, flavonoids, terpenoids, polysaccharides responsible efficacy diabetes. These findings underscore potential candidates, urging further research to develop effective plant-based drugs, beverages, supplements.

Hyperglycemia, characterized by elevated blood glucose levels, is a major risk factor for diabetes mellitus and its complications. While conventional therapies are effective, they often associated with side effects high costs, necessitating alternative strategies. This study evaluates the potential of caffeic acid (CA), phenolic compound reported antihyperglycemic properties, using both in silico vivo approaches. Molecular docking simulations revealed that CA demonstrates strong binding affinity to protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B), critical enzyme metabolism, superior interaction profiles compared reference drug, ertiprotafib. In studies, Drosophila melanogaster model was used investigate under hyperglycemic conditions induced high-sugar diet. Treatment CA, particularly at concentration 500 μM, significantly reduced hemolymph levels improved several physiological behavioral parameters, including survival rates, body size, weight, larval movement. Furthermore, gene expression analysis demonstrated modulates key metabolic stress-related pathways, enhancing homeostasis reducing stress. These findings highlight dual utility methodologies elucidating CA. The results support development as cost-effective ethically viable therapeutic candidate implications management resource-limited settings.

ABSTRACT Dietary exposure to acrylamide is almost unavoidable and may result into long‐term consequences. It has been reported cause sexual dysfunction even infertility. This study aimed investigate the protective effects of caffeic acid against acrylamide‐induced reproductive in male rats. Group 1 served as control; group 2 received at a dose 40 mg/kg for 10 days. In groups, 3–6, was given 2, followed by therapy (10, 20, 30, mg/kg) 3 consecutive found that causes significant alteration serum concentrations FSH, testosterone, LH; decreased sperm motility viability. Acrylamide administration biochemical parameters including lipid peroxidation, reduced glutathione, antioxidant enzymes (SOD CAT) along with triglyceride, cholesterol, seminal fructose. Moreover, histological alterations promotes DNA damage evident COMET assay. After treatment, serological, biochemical, returned normal ranges. Based on our findings, it reasonable conclude acid, natural antioxidant, potential medication lessen any harmful gonads brought consumption.
