Global phosphorus reserves are under pressure of depletion in the near future due to increased consumption primary reservoirs and improper management phosphorus. At same time, a considerable portion global marine water bodies has been suffering from eutrophication excessive nutrient loading. The environment can be considered as valuable source rich eutrophic seawater sediment which could potentially serve mines future. Hence, sustainable recovery strategies should adapted for systems provide growing market demand simultaneously control eutrophication. In this review, possible removal environments discussed detail. Bio-based relying on natural uptake/release metabolism living organisms suggested promising options that both waters achieving ecosystem. Among them, utilization microorganisms seems develop novel strategies. However, research gap technical applicability these is still considerably big. Therefore, focus development through laboratory and/or field studies. Coupling mining with other valorisation pathways (i.e., metal recovery, energy production) also improve overall sustainability economic viability. Environmental, societal challenges altogether well addressed prior real scale applications.
