Micro/nano-plastics (MNPs) are considered a heterogeneous class of environmental contaminants that cause multiple toxic effects on biological species. As the commonly used mammalian models to study MNPs with regard their effects, mouse and rat making great contribution disciplines toxicology medical health. However, have not been systematically summarized. Therefore, systematic review meta-analysis mouse/rat were conducted. A total seven main categories established in this review, 24 subcategories further divided according specific physiological significance endpoint or classification system, which covered all selected pieces literature. 1,762 endpoints found, 52.78% them significantly affected. This fact indicates there relative factors, including size, polymer type, concentration, exposure time different sexes could affect endpoints. These can be classified into various such as dose-response relationships between MNP concentration nervous growth, reproduction, digestive tract histopathology, inflammatory cytokine level, among others. negatively affected blood glucose metabolism, lipid reproductive function mice. The male mice is more sensitive MNPs. findings also provide insights directions for exploring evidence mechanisms human It clear research required pathological at molecular level long-term tissue accumulation.

Exposure to environmentally hazardous substances is recognized as a significant risk factor for neurological associated disorders. Among these substances, polystyrene microplastics (PS-MPs), widely utilized in various consumer products, have been reported exhibit neurotoxicity. However, the potential association of PS-MPs with abnormal anxiety behaviors, along underlying molecular mechanisms and key proteins involved, remains insufficiently explored. Here, we delineated PS-MPs-induced through proteomics investigations. We characterized PS-MPs, observed their accumulation brain, leading anxiety-like behavior mice, which correlated microglia activation pro-inflammatory response. Consistent findings, our studies on BV2 cells showed that activated NF-κB-mediated inflammation resulting upregulation cytokines such TNFα IL-1β. Of particular significance, HRAS was identified induced response whole analysis, knockdown H-ras effectively inhibited PERK-NF-κB cells. Collectively, findings highlight induce mice via HRAS-derived pathway microlglia. Our results contribute valuable insights into anxiety, may offer implications addressing neurotoxicity prevention adverse effects including microplastics.
