Quantifying the risk of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) transmission in indoor settings is crucial for developing effective non-vaccine prevention strategies and policies. However, summary evidence on risks other than households, schools, elderly care, health care facilities limited. We conducted a systematic review to estimate secondary attack rates (SARs) SARS-CoV-2 factors modifying community settings.

The purpose of this review was to identify the effectiveness environmental control (EC) non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) in reducing transmission SARS-CoV-2 through conducting a systematic review. EC NPIs considered are room ventilation, air filtration/cleaning, occupancy, surface disinfection, barrier devices, [Formula: see text] monitoring and one-way-systems. Systematic searches databases from Web Science, Medline, EMBASE, preprint servers MedRxiv BioRxiv were conducted order studies reported between 1 January 2020 December 2022. All articles reporting on one-way systems retrieved screened. In total, 13 971 identified for screening. initial title abstract screening 1328 full text Overall, 19 references provided evidence NPIs: 12 4 cleaning 5 6 occupancy screens/barriers. No found that or implementation systems. Many these assessed have critical risk bias at least one domain, largely due confounding factors could affected measured outcomes. As result, there is low confidence findings. Evidence suggests devices reduction room-occupancy may role certain settings. However, usually very quality certainty, hence level ascribed conclusion low. Based found, it not possible draw any specific conclusions regarding disinfection use devices. From results, we further conclude community agreed standards well-designed epidemiological with needed. Implementation such would enable more confident assessment future other pathogens real-world This article part theme issue 'The COVID-19 pandemic: evidence'.

Abstract Ultraviolet‐C (UVC) irradiation is being used as an effective approach for the disinfection of pathogenic viruses present in air, surfaces, and water. Recently, far‐UVC radiation (222 nm) emitted by KrCl* (krypton‐chloride) excimer lamps have been recommended disinfecting high‐risk public spaces to reduce presence transmission infectious owing limited human health exposure risks compared germicidal UVC (254 nm). In this study, inactivation performances individual filtered lamp were determined against four viruses, bacteriophages MS2, Phi6, M13, T4, having different genome compositions (ssRNA, dsRNA, ssDNA dsDNA, respectively) shapes (i.e., spherical (Phi6), linear (M13), icosahedral (MS2 T4)). Here, efficacies evaluated highly concentrated virus droplets that mimic virus‐laden released from infected person deposited on surfaces fomites. Filtered showed significantly better all structures The obtained sensitivity was found be order, T4 > M13 Phi6 MS2 whereas it Phi6. These results provide a strong basis promote use contagious limit associated disease spread places other areas.
