Heavy metal pollution is posing significant threats to the environment and human health. Engineered biochar, derived from various biomass sources through thermochemical processes, has emerged as a promising solution for pollutant remediation recovery. This review explores latest advancements in preparation, characterization, application of engineered biochar adsorption, recycling, utilization. It begins by discussing significance adsorption providing an overview properties. The examines preparation characterization techniques, emphasizing feedstock selection, conversion methods, surface modifications. Mechanisms such physical chemical ion exchange, complexation, are critically discussed. Moreover, factors influencing capacity, including properties, characteristics, environmental conditions, analyzed. efficacy adsorbing specific metals, heavy transition rare earth elements, reviewed with recent studies key findings. Furthermore, recycling regeneration metal-loaded discussed, focusing on repurposed techniques alongside challenges economic considerations.
