The formidable challenge of membrane fouling by high-viscosity oils remains a primary impediment to the sustainable application separation membranes in treating oil-contaminated wastewater. Consequently, there is an imperative for development wastewater treatment endowed with self-cleansing capabilities. current review aims delineate landscape tailored Embarking from foundational theories and benchmarks self-cleansing, functionalities were classified into active passive modalities. We encapsulate strides made research, encompassing domains such as super-wettable surfaces, synchronously filtered post-filtration high-efficiency while concurrently identifying extant constraints prospective trajectories. By meticulously categorizing dissecting functionalities, aim this work delving fundamental tenets within intended wastewater, furnishing guidance design advancement oil-water membranes.
