Abstract Background The prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has been increasing rapidly. It is nowadays recognized as the most frequent disease, affecting a quarter global population and regularly coexisting with metabolic disorders such type 2 diabetes, hypertension, obesity, cardiovascular disease. In more simplistic view, NAFLD could be defined an increase in fat content, absence secondary cause steatosis. fact, clinical onset much complex process, closely related to insulin resistance, limited expandability dysfunctionality adipose tissue. A main driver for new liver-pancreatic α-cell axis increased glucagon, contributing diabetes pathophysiology. Main text This review will focus on pathophysiological connections between NAFLD, resistance diabetes. We reviewed non-invasive methods several scoring systems estimative steatosis fibrosis, proposing multistep process evaluation. also discuss treatment options comprehensive focusing current available therapies obesity and/or that impact each stage NAFLD. Conclusion proper understanding spectrum—as continuum from syndrome diabetes—may contribute early identification establishment targeted treatment.

Abstract Background and aims Metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a novel concept proposed in 2020, the utility of which has not been tested validated real world. We aimed to compare characteristics MAFLD non‐alcoholic (NAFLD). Methods The data was retrieved from third National Health Nutrition Examination Surveys United States, an unbiased survey dataset frequently used for study disease. Results A total 13 083 cases with completed ultrasonography laboratory were identified NHANES III database. diagnosed 4087/13 (31.24%) participants, while NAFLD 4347/13 (33.23%) amongst overall population 4347/12 045 (36.09%) patients without alcohol intake other diseases. Compared NAFLD, significantly older, had higher BMI level, proportions metabolic comorbidities (diabetes, hypertension) HOMA‐IR, lipid enzymes. consumption younger than those without, more likely be male. They less disorder but There advance fibrosis consumption. Conclusion definition practical identifying high risk progression.
