Data spaces are increasingly recognized as a key enabler of secure, sovereign, and interoperable data exchange across manufacturing supply chain networks. Despite growing institutional interest in Europe, academic research on this topic lacks consolidated perspective. This study addresses gap by combining systematic literature review with an analysis early insights from European initiatives to explore how being conceptualized implemented industrial contexts. The covers bibliometric trends thematic content the scientific literature, while also examining structure maturity ongoing projects. Results show recent surge scholarly interest, applications focusing primarily resilience sustainability. Practical progressing toward implementation, supported reference architectures like International Space Gaia-X. concludes outlining future priorities, including need for standardized design approaches greater support cross-sector collaboration.
