In recent years, the demand for high strength materials such as aerospace, offshore plant, energy, and manufacturing has increased due to need stability reliability in severe environments. Especially, Inconel 718, a nickel-based superalloy with excellent properties, is widely used. 718 undergoes two-step process, including solution heat treatment aging, control its mechanical properties. The alloy's relies on precipitation phases like MC carbides, Gamma prime (γ′), double (γ'´), influenced by aging conditions. this study, we tried investigate correlation between behavior of precipitates properties according primary temperature. addition, hardening various conditions was investigated through analysis microstructure, SEM, EDS TEM. highest hardness, coupled reduced impact toughness, were observed after at °C an increase size quantity γ′ γ'´ precipitates. result fracture surface Charpy test specimen, intergranular abundant small-sized formed within boundary.

While direct aging of Inconel 718 nickel-based superalloy from the as-built state is known as a promising practice to tune mechanical properties, precipitation kinetics γ˝ phase, main precipitating has received less attention. Accordingly, in present work, post-processing form treatment manufactured by laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing, also selective melting (SLM), was systematically investigated microstructural analysis and hardness measurements. It revealed that peak aged condition for can be achieved at much shorter holding times compared after homogenization/solutionizing heat treatment. Moreover, Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov (JMAK) based on both measurements were applied unravel kinetics, which respectively led activation energies 160 157 kJ/mol, are consistent with energy diffusion Nb IN718 SLM. Lifshitz–Slyozov–Wagner (LSW) diffusion-controlled growth theory modified become applicable investigating during evolution volume fraction kJ/mol. These results shed light procedures used additively superalloy.

Abstract Additive manufacturing (AM) technologies offer unprecedented design flexibility but are limited by a lack of understanding the material microstructure formed under their extreme and transient processing conditions its subsequent transformation during post-build processing. As part 2022 AM Bench Challenge, sponsored National Institute Standards Technology, this study focuses on phase composition evolution nickel alloy 718, nickel-based superalloy, to provide benchmark data essential for validation computational models microstructural predictions. We employed high-energy synchrotron X-ray diffraction, in situ scattering, as well high-resolution transmission electron microscopy our analyses. The uncovers critical aspects as-built state, homogenization, aging heat treatment. Specifically, we identified secondary phases, monitored dissolution coarsening elements, observed formation stability γ ’ ” phases. results rigorous required understand atomic transformations thereby enhancing reliability applicability predicting mechanical properties.
