MIC (microbiologically influenced corrosion) is problematic in many industries, especially the oil and gas industry. Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) contamination in groundwater poses a substantial global challenge due to its high toxicity and extensive industrial applications. While the bioelectroremediation of Cr(VI) has attracted huge attention for eco-friendly attributes, practical application remains constrained by hydrogeochemical conditions (mainly pH), low electron transfer efficiency, limitations electrocatalyst synthesis electrode fabrication. In this study, we developed investigated use N, S co-doped carbon nanofibers (CNFs) integrated on graphite felt (GF) as self-standing cathode (NS/CNF-GF) comprehensive reduction from real contaminated groundwater. The binder free cathode, prepared through electro-polymerization, was employed dual-chamber microbial fuel cell (MFC) treatment Cr (VI)-laden (40 mg/L) with pH 7.4. electrochemical characterization revealed distinct electroactive surface area, more wettability, facilitating enhanced adsorption rapid transfer, resulting commendable rate 0.83 mg/L/h. MFC equipped NS/CNF-GF demonstrated lowest charge resistance (Rct) generated highest power density (155 ± 0.3 mW/m2) compared control systems. favorable electrokinetics modified led swift substrate consumption anode, releasing electrons protons, thereby accelerating achieve cathodic coulombic efficiency (C.Eca) 80 1.3%.
