Loss of skeletal muscle strength and mass (sarcopenia) is common in older adults associated with an increased risk disability, frailty premature death. Finding cost-effective prevention treatment strategies for sarcopenia the growing ageing population therefore great public health interest. Although nutrition considered important factor aetiology sarcopenia, its potential and/or still being evaluated. Nutrition research utilises three main approaches to understand muscle-nutrition relationships, evaluating: single nutrients, whole foods diet effects - both alone or combined exercise. Applying these approaches, we summarise recent evidence from qualitative quantitative syntheses findings observational intervention studies healthy adults, those sarcopenia. We consider protein supplements, (fruits vegetables) Mediterranean as exemplars. There some beneficial supplementation ≥ 0·8 g/kg body weight/d on when exercise training sarcopenic adults. In contrast, function (strength physical performance) inconclusive. reasonably consistent epidemiological suggesting benefits higher fruits vegetables consumption better performance. Similarly, adherence studies. However, are lacking. This review discusses how current may inform development preventive optimal nutritional policy aimed at combatting

The loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength, known as sarcopenia, is prevalent in older adults linked to an increased risk disability, frailty, early mortality. Muscle health crucial for the functionality independence adults. As aging population continuously grows, finding cost-effective strategies preventing treating sarcopenia important public priority. While nutrition recognized a key factor development its role condition still under investigation. In recent decades, nutritional research has shifted from focus on individual nutrients or healthy foods examining combination dietary patterns, along with their potential synergistic antagonistic effects. A balanced diet regular participation physical activity are essential maintaining musculoskeletal health. One eating patterns greatest evidence multiple benefits Mediterranean diet, which also been positive effects function observational studies. Sarcopenia, a condition characterized by the progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength, poses significant challenges in research due to missing data. Incomplete datasets undermine accuracy reliability studies, necessitating effective imputation techniques. This study conducts comparative analysis three advanced methods-multiple chained equations (MICE), support vector regression, K-nearest neighbors (KNN)-to address data completeness issues sarcopenia research. Following imputation, we utilized machine learning models, including logistic gradient boosting, machine, random forest, classify sarcopenia. The methodology encompassed rigorous preprocessing, normalization, synthetic minority oversampling technique class imbalance ensure unbiased model performance. results revealed substantial variations based on method employed. boosting consistently exhibited superior performance across all strategies, demonstrating its robustness with imputed datasets. Additionally, KNN MICE emerged as techniques, preserving original distribution enabling more accurate classification outcomes. underscores pivotal role methods maintaining integrity enhancing predictive model's strategies highlights potential robust classifier, while suitability for supports their application similar contexts. These findings contribute reliable valid insights ultimately supporting improved clinical

Sarcopenia is a progressive, generalized disease of skeletal muscle characterized by loss strength and mass. The combination obesity sarcopenia called sarcopenic obesity. Because the aging population in many countries around world, are challenge for global health policy. This review based on pertinent publications retrieved selective literature search. effects quality life far-reaching include difficulty coping with everyday life, an increased risk falling, frequent hospitalization, mortality. A population-based study Germany revealed 7% prevalence adults aged 65 above. was 4.5%. Persons above who at should be screened, e.g., SARC-F questionnaire. If screening yields suggestive finding (SARC-F ≥ 4 points), diagnosis confirmed or ruled out measurements (e.g. hand-grip strength, reference values: women <16 kg, men <27 kg) appendicular mass (women <5.5 kg/m2, <7.0 kg/m2). demonstration reduced sufficient to initiate treatment. For obesity, fat additionally required. goal treatment improve mobility reduce negative outcomes. consists resistance training nutritional interventions. targeted structured approach detection can make major contribution maintenance improvement these patients' functionality life.

Purpose of review Muscle health helps maintain locomotor capacity, a key component intrinsic which is required for healthy ageing. Sarcopenia characterized by the age-related decline in muscle mass and strength leading to impaired physical performance, has been described as biological substrate frailty. Both sarcopenia frailty share phenotypic features weakness slowness, lead common adverse outcomes, have potential reversal through early identification intervention. The purpose this present recent evidence impact lifestyle interventions across life course on Recent findings Resistance exercise alone or combined with balance aerobic training part multicomponent program high-quality diets incorporating adequate protein remain mainstay treatment Reducing sedentary time increasing activity, adherence Mediterranean diet, vegetable caffeinated beverage intake, cardiovascular risk factor modification, improving sleep hygiene depressive symptoms may also contribute slowing down health. Summary Lifestyle such mental are effective against Targeting modifications midlife retard further capacity optimize older persons, reducing sarcopenia, their attendant negative outcomes.

Background: Extra virgin olive oil is a fundamental component of the Mediterranean diet. It contains several molecules that sustain human well-being by modulating cellular metabolism and exerting antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-ageing effects to protect normal tissues can exert anti-angiogenic, pro-apoptotic on cancer cells. Metabolites found in different parts tree, including leaves, also possess properties might help prevention promote wellness aging. Olive mill wastewater (OMWW), liquid residue produced during extraction, represents an environmental issue. However, it enriched phytochemicals with potential beneficial properties. Dietary supplements based OMWW be for nutritional supplementation advantages ecology. Purpose: This work aims measure hematochemical, anthropometric metabolomic parameters volunteers assuming dietary supplement, OliphenoliaⓇ (OMWW-OL). Methods: The OMWW-OL 25 mL twice daily 30 days was tested pilot cohort characteristics close metabolic syndrome. Hematochemical, anthropometric, were analyzed before intervention, at after stopping consumption. Results: 29 enrolled 23 completed study. participants’ baseline measured, then treatment assumption discontinuation. Although derivative, weight body mass index instead increasing slightly decreased, particularly women. Also, hydration increased, especially women, while blood pressure, glycemia insulin decreased. Cholesterol, low-density high-density lipoproteins triglycerides stable vitamin D levels, alongside calcium, sensibly increased. Albumin increased related sarcopenia displayed promising, although not statistically significant, trends toward positive effects. All values support equilibrium no damaging By spectrometry analysis, we favorable changes D/histamine homocysteine/methionine ratios, increase new metabolite unknown formula, D/unknown ratio. Conclusions: Supplementation has detrimental and, limited potency study, imply modulation biological parameters, being potentially valuable people risk Some these could relevant as prevention.
