‘Feeling fat’ refers to the subjective experience of carrying excess weight and relates severity eating pathology. Despite research suggesting that ‘feeling fluctuates across contexts, this construct is almost exclusively assessed in terms frequency or as a trait. Examining state response external stimuli can inform us nature construct. In an experimental study, 290 community women were exposed five categories affective (pleasant, aversive, neutral) body (thin non-thin) images quasi-random order. Self-Assessment Manikin (SAM) valence arousal rating scales well novel SAM scale rated for each image. Theoretically-relevant constructs (i.e., trait fat’, thin-ideal internalization, dissatisfaction, pathology) also measured. Body elicited greater than images, with non-thin bodies producing higher thin bodies. Positive correlations observed between all variables interest, whereas associations these small non-significant. The development measure allows investigation triggers bodily will facilitate future research.

There is growing support for fear of self as a transdiagnostic construct implicated in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and eating disorders. However, few studies have examined how perceived proximity to feared may be associated with the relationship between pathology. A community sample women (N = 290) completed an online questionnaire battery. Eating pathology was positively unattractive and, lesser extent, corrupted culpable selves, suggesting relevance range selves significant interaction this (operationalized "feeling fat") relation
