The emergence of COVID-19 has caused unprecedented impacts on global public health and many other aspects. Cholesteric liquid crystal elastomers (CLCEs) possess a unique characteristic that allows the manipulation of reflected color by adjusting spacing between layers. This attribute can create reliable and cost-effective colorimetric sensing platform for on-site detection various substances. In this study, CLCE films were coupled with cross-linked poly(acrylic acid) (CLCE-PAA) or poly(dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) (CLCE-PDA) to monitor cholesterol malathion levels, respectively. both cases, change is recorded mobile phone camera, reflectance wavelength measured spectrophotometrically. For detection, smartphone application was used capture film's image, process data into hue (H) values, calculate corresponding concentration tested analyte via an analysis program. In 2024, mpox (formerly "monkeypox") re-emerged as a global health threat due to the more severe Clade I strain, underscoring need for rapid, accessible diagnostics. Traditional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods, while effective, demand complex laboratory infrastructure and extended processing times. To address these limitations, this study presents fast-flow micromixer paper-based analytical device (fmPAD) designed ultrasensitive, rapid virus (MPXV) detection. The employs specially engineered sensing probe with cytosine-cytosine (C─C) mismatch sequence that hybridizes MPXV target, reactivating urease previously inhibited by Ag+ ions generating color change in pH-sensitive indicator. Enhanced fluid mixing flow within fmPAD allow efficient enzymatic reactivation, achieving linear detection range from 1 1000 pm, limit of (LOD) down 65 fM. Real viral particles urine saliva are also successfully detected at concentrations low 5 copies mL-1 without DNA amplification, using portable colorimeter-representing lowest LOD among current sensors. fmPAD, combined readout technology, enables remote, real-time analysis, offering practical tool monitoring containing spread mpox.

An ultrasensitive new sensor based on functionalized triangular gold nanosheet layers for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) detection was proposed. For this purpose, 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS) used to fix nanosheets (AuTNPs) the surface of optical fiber. AuTNPs have a unique tip structure and excellent localized plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect, which can improve sensitivity sensor. Then, monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are fixed by covalent bonds make biosensors. The combination mAb fiber through bond verified ultraviolet (UV)–vis infrared characterization. attached binds SARS-CoV-2 antigen physical adsorption, effective refractive index changes, resulting in peak shift. At same time, it is proved that LSPR shift not caused be measured. Au-mAb biosensor displays linear response spike concentration 1.56–312 ng/mL 0.035 nm/(ng/mL). has short time (10 min), good stability, reused. broad application prospects medical diagnostic field.
