The use of Nature-based Solutions (NBS), designed and implemented with participatory approaches, is rapidly increasing. Much being made the Living Lab (LL) concept to co-create innovative NBS stakeholders in a certain societal environmental, real-life context. Most current research revolves around urban LLs, thus overlooking specificities rural areas. Furthermore, influence context itself on co-creation processes insufficiently recognised, leaving challenges associated such as stakeholder engagement unresolved. By exploring LLs OPERANDUM project, this study identifies eighteen contextual factors shaping within territories provides recommendations. In addition, based lessons learnt we discuss value relational place-based approach suggesting that process should be approached dynamic confluence many interconnected factors. We conclude acknowledging interconnections may increase success impact LL approach, ultimately, benefits NBS.

Abstract The last half‐a‐century has seen a marked demand for authentic citizen participation in public policy‐and decision‐making, not least the field of sustainability. depth and forms engagement nature‐based solutions (NBS), example, how such shapes their trajectories is gaining increasing attention. In this paper, we analyze current implications 58 NBS case studies conducted 21 cities light supporting wider sustainability goals. Our results show that while tokenistic dominate across variety contexts, collaborative multi‐stakeholder do automatically lead to enhanced ecological functions. Deeper engagement, however, strengthen diversify both expected unexpected social outcomes, including learning, sense belonging, environmental stewardship, inclusiveness equity, general. Driven by neoliberal austerity logic governments often cede power promoters whose interests predefine an intervention's vision nature. levels are hence limited inherent institutional structures, regimes lack trust among actors involved. These limitations can be partially bridged strengthening relational reflexive capacities institutions. Focusing on process creating multiple arenas discussion could bring out new voices narratives also transform culture participation.

Sustainable urban design is a critical component in addressing the challenges posed by rapid urbanization and increasing strain on natural resources. This paper provides comprehensive review of eco-friendly building practices their impact communities within context sustainable design. The first section examines various that contribute to includes use renewable energy sources, green materials, energy-efficient technologies. integration these not only reduces environmental footprint developments but also enhances overall resilience built environment. second part focuses community It explores how can foster sense community, improve residents' quality life, promote social equity. goes beyond considerations; it embraces holistic approach prioritizes well-being inhabitants. Furthermore, delves into case studies examples successful projects from around world. These showcase positive outcomes implementing practices, such as improved air water quality, reduced consumption, creation vibrant, walkable neighborhoods. In conclusion, this highlights importance associated with urbanization. By adopting mitigate environment create healthier, more resilient, socially inclusive spaces. serves valuable resource for planners, architects, policymakers seeking development enhance communities. Climate change is one factor increasing the risk of hydro-meteorological hazards globally. The use nature-based solutions (NbS), and more specifically ecosystem-based disaster reduction measures (Eco-DRR), has become a popular response for that also provides highly-valued co-benefits. Public acceptance particular importance NbS since they often rely on local collaborative implementation, management, monitoring, as well long-term protection against competing societal interests. Although public engagement common goal projects, it rarely carried out with sufficient understanding (de)motivating factors tied to perceptions. Successful collaboration demands consideration attitudes values in relation risk, nature, place. More than 90 systematic reviews have been conducted on the topic of nature-based solutions for climate change adaptation (NBS-CCA). These prior reviews, however, are scattered across more 45 different peer-reviewed journals and gray literature sources, making it difficult to follow all knowledge generated remaining research gaps. In this study, we a review NBS-CCA, with objective mapping analyzing these reviews. We found that most had relatively narrow focuses, typically focusing particular geographic context NBS-CCA (mainly in urban coastal areas) or aspect planning/implementation outcomes assessment policy/governance issues). Fewer focused mountainous areas social financial aspects planning/implementation. The majority relied solely analysis, only 26% including literature, despite large amount variety exists. Notably, no yet attempted comprehensively analyze contexts e.g. through meta-analysis available topic. This would likely require massive multidisciplinary effort, but could be worthy endeavor considering realized need integrate into national/subnational policies various international environmental agreements pertaining (e.g., Paris Agreement) biodiversity conservation Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework).

Abstract Urban biodiversity conservation is critical if cities are to tackle the biodiversity‐extinction crisis and connect people with nature. However, little attention has been paid how urban environmental managers navigate complex socio‐ecological contexts conserve in cities. We interviewed from Australian identify (1) breadth of actions undertaken (2) barriers enablers action. found current practice be more diverse, innovative, proactive than previously described (318 across nine categories). Conversely, priority identified by literature yet “mainstream” (e.g., designing for human–nature connection, securing space nature cities). Further, we a suite levers overcome barriers. Our research provides scientists practitioners an understanding multiple facets emphasizes importance interdisciplinary approaches future practice.
