Characteristics of people who have received treatment for late-onset problem drinking and alcohol use disorder: A systematic review and narrative synthesis

Aims: The current review investigated the psychosocial characteristics of late-onset problem drinkers, an under-researched area alcohol harm that accounts for one-third older drinkers. Method: Following PRISMA model, protocol and search strategy included a scoping main nine databases. A total 1,595 papers were identified; after screening, 26 considered eligible in review. used investigative framework comprising three categories: standardising age onset; gender differences; mental health characteristics. also how meaning purpose life, treatment have been reported relation to this cohort. Findings/Conclusions: combined onset ages reviews’ (mean = 52.69 years) participants’ self-reported at 56.79 years), suggest use disorder (AUD)/problem drinking is likely emerge 55 years older.
