Microplastics (MPs), widely present in aquatic ecosystems, can be ingested by numerous organisms, but their toxicity remains poorly understood. Toxicity of environmental MPs from 2 beaches located on the Guadeloupe archipelago, Marie Galante (MG) and Petit-Bourg (PB) near North Atlantic gyre, was evaluated. A first experiment consisted exposing early life stages zebrafish (Danio rerio) to at 1 or 10 mg/L. The exposure particles water induced no toxic effects except a decrease larval swimming activity for both exposures (MG PB). Then, second performed as chronic feeding over 4 months, using freshwater fish species, zebrafish, marine medaka (Oryzias melastigma). Fish were fed with food supplemented environmentally relevant concentrations (1% wet weight food) sites. Chronic led growth alterations species exposed either MG PB more pronounced medaka. Ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD) acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activities only altered Reproductive outputs modified following 70 42% medaka, respectively. Offspring (F1 generation) reared evaluate parental unexposed larvae. For offspring, it revealed premature mortality after produced behavioural disruptions hyperactivity F1 This not observed offspring. study highlights ecotoxicological consequences short long-term microplastics coastal areas, which represent essential habitats wide range organisms.
