Abstract Background Sarcopenic obesity emerges as a risk factor for adverse clinical outcomes in non-hospitalized older adults, including physical disabilities, metabolic diseases, and even mortality. In this systematic review meta-analysis, we investigated the overall SO prevalence adults aged ≥ 65 years assessed sociodemographic, clinicobiological, lifestyle factors related to SO. Methods We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science databases studies reporting from database inception October 2023. Two researchers independently screened literature, evaluated study quality, extracted data. Both fixed- random-effects models were used meta-analysis estimate pooled perform subgroup analyses. Publication sensitivity bias analyses performed test robustness associations. Results Among 46 eligible total 71,757 combined was 14% (95% CI:11–17%, I 2 = 99.5%, P < 0.01). Subgroup analysis according demonstrated that 17% CI: 8–29%, 0.01) without exercise habits. Regarding clinicobiological factors, with history falls (15% [95% 10–22%, 82%, 0.01]), two or more chronic diseases (19% 10–29%, 97%, functional impairment (33% 29–37%, 0%, 0.95]), cognitive (35% 9–65%, 83%, 0.02]), osteoporosis (20% 8–35%, 96%, high fasting glucose level (17% 1–49%, 98%, use antipsychotics (13% 2–28%, 0.32]) exhibited higher prevalence. Conclusion is among especially those impairments. Thus, potential problem aging population; implementation planned interventions community needed reduce

Sarcopenic obesity is characterized by concurrent and muscle wasting (sarcopenia) common in the elderly. has steadily increased as aging population grown an increasing public health burden. Both sarcopenia independently increase risks of elderly, but sarcopenic a greater effect on metabolic disease than either or alone. The mechanisms are strongly interconnected, form vicious cycle, with each pathology exacerbating other. pathogenesis more complex alone remains incompletely understood, underscoring significant unmet clinical need for effective treatments. We aimed to determine efficacy underlying regulatory Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) high-fat-diet-fed obese aged mice alterations related potential GABA therapeutic modality obesity. In this study, we used young (3 months) (20 evaluate age-related daily administration 8 weeks resulted decreased fat mass strength mice. also enhanced energy expenditure both adipose tissue skeletal muscle. addition, promoted synthesis degradation activating phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt pathway. These findings demonstrate that uses preventing diseases.

Sarcopenic obesity (SO) and osteoporosis (OP) are associated with aging obesity. The pathogenesis of SO is complex, including glucolipid skeletal muscle metabolic disorders caused by inflammation, insulin resistance, other factors. Growing evidence links damage to bone loss. Muscle-lipid metabolism disrupt the balance between formation resorption, increasing risk OP. Conversely, bones also play a role in fat metabolism. In context obesity, comprehensive review focuses on effects mechanical stimulation, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), chronic myokines, adipokines musculoskeletal, at same time, impact osteokines muscle-lipid were analyzed. So far, exercise combined diet therapy most effective strategy for musculoskeletal mass. A holistic treatment diseases still preliminary exploration stage. Therefore, this article aims improve understanding -fat interactions OP, explores targets that can provide discusses current limitations challenges. We hope relevant ideas developing specific therapies improving disease prognosis future.
