Donor-acceptor-based fluorescent molecules have garnered considerable attention as excellent tool for trace detection of Cu2+ ions, owing to their tunable photophysical properties and higher sensitivity. Concurrently, these may occasionally display undesired fluorescence quenching due several factors, thereby diminishing selectivity. To address this concern, work focuses on developing selective reversible sensors ions. pursue this, novel probes were designed by incorporating donor moieties like diphenylamine dimethylamine into an imidazopyridine unit. The synthesized characterized using conventional techniques. As exhibit strong attributed intramolecular charge transfer, confirmed density functional theory calculations. HOMO is localized amine moiety, while LUMO resides segment. Utilizing electron-rich pyridine acceptor a binding site, both exceptional specificity toward ions over other competing metal induces the ground-state complex formation, evidenced appearance isosbestic point in absorption spectrum. This interaction results "turn-off" response, disrupting transfer process that governs donor-acceptor fluorescence. fluorometric titration method was employed assess sensitivity which exhibited linearity at lower concentrations, achieving limit picomolar levels. Moreover, low toxicity, validated MTT assay, successfully utilized detecting naturally occurring copper proteins. Consequently, probe comprising unit serves viable within intricate biological systems.
