Wood plastic composites (WPCs) have recently gained attention as alternatives to traditional wood materials for outdoor use, thanks their enhanced moisture resistance and durability, which extends service life. Discolouration well surface erosion has been observed during weathering both WPCs with untreated heat-treated wood. Wood-plastic composite (WPC) is a construction application that can accommodate higher proportion of recycled plastic without compromising engineering properties. However, existing environmental impact assessment (EIA) studies WPC production have four deficiencies and underestimate the impacts. There are (1) outdated inventory data; (2) incomplete processes; (3) unreasonable or unclear burden allocation between product life cycles; (4) preference for mass over economic value allocation.This study addresses these gaps using primary data from three Australian recycling businesses converting collected recyclables into products. Results indicate previous underestimated climate change impacts by up to 30%. Sorting out waste polymer type at material recovery facilities (MRFs) identified as critical strategy mitigate Additionally, this revealed gap theoretical industry practices regarding cycles. Future research agenda recommended.
