Increased aggression due to gaming addiction is a widespread and highly publicized problem. The underlying processes by which verbal aggression, more harmful persistent subcategory of affected may differ from other types aggression. In this study, data came 252 randomly recruited current university students (50.79% male, mean age 19.60 years, SD: 1.44 range 17 29 years). Participants reported different through questionnaires. addition, two important explanatory processes, inhibitory control, risk preference, were measured behavioral experiments. A Bayesian hierarchical drift-diffusion model was employed interpret the preference task. contrast previous work, study found that control did not significantly correlate with either or any form However, drift rate, measure decision-making inclination under risk, partially mediates relationship between (but forms aggression). findings illuminate adverse conditions as key predictor offering avenues for early intervention suggesting game design modifications mitigate adjusting reward mechanisms.

Abstract Background and aims Cognitive control reward-related abnormalities are centrally implicated in addiction. However, findings from longitudinal studies addressing neurocognitive predictors of addictive behaviors mixed. Further, little work has been conducted predicting non-substance-related behaviors. Our study aimed to assess substance non-substance a community sample, systematically evaluating each function's independent influence on behavior. Methods Australians ( N = 294; 51.7% female; M[SD] age 24.8[4.7] years) completed online tasks surveys at baseline 3-month follow-up. Self-report scales assessed problematic alcohol use, eating (AE), pornography use (PPU), internet (PUI) 3- 6-month follow-ups. Linear regressions with bootstrapping for behavior across period. Results Neurocognition did not predict AE or PUI severity Less delay discounting predicted higher PPU follow-up β −0.16, p 0.005). Poorer performance monitoring 0.004), more attentional capture 3-months 0.14, 0.033). −0.14, 0.003) less risk-taking under ambiguity −0.11, 0.029) All were small effect size. None the variables use. Discussion conclusions We unable identify core set specific functions that reliably multiple types. our indicate both cognitive different ways. Findings suggest there may be partially distinct mechanisms contributing addiction depending

Abstract Purpose of review This narrative provides a detailed look at impulsivity in the context gaming disorder. Summarizing empirical findings, we aim to identify whether disorder is associated with specific facets impulsivity, namely motor, attentional, and decisional assessed by self-report behavioral measures. Wherever possible, distinguished between general stimuli-specific (gaming-related) impulsivity. Recent findings Gaming attentional Heightened motor individuals particularly evident presence gaming-related cues. Decisional not per se increased. Gender-related differences comorbid ADHD are likely moderate association symptoms. Summary Facets differentially These associations dependent upon characteristics studied population, used measures, applied diagnostic criteria. Uniform diagnosis/screening more targeted investigations necessary order derive effective clinical implications.

Young people, in particular young men, are at risk of harm from gambling. Indeed, gambling disorder is a neglected public health issue. Recent government proposals the UK aim to address problem, but they may not be enough. In this article authors explore complex issues around disorder, especially as it relates online gambling, including some factors that put men greater risk.

Previous research on cognitive functions in Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CSBD) and problematic pornography use (PPU) reported inconsistent findings mostly included sexual pictures the used tasks. The role of general executive competences (without presence appetitive stimuli) context PPU is largely unexplored. This study investigated differences between individuals with high versus low problem severity regarding decision making functions. sample laboratory consisted N = 102 male adults. Besides measures trait impulsivity, we standard neuropsychological tests (Trail Making Test three-back working memory task) an intertemporal risky choice paradigm, Cards & Lottery Task (CLT). results show heightened impulsivity (urgency deficits perseverance) PPU, but no performance CLT function indicate that might be associated impulsive behavior when experiencing strong emotions (urgency) deficient especially stimuli not general.
