Among the rhythms of brain, oscillations in beta frequency range (∼13-30 Hz) have been considered most enigmatic. Traditionally associated with sensorimotor functions, recently become more broadly implicated top-down processing, long-range communication, and preservation current brain state. Here, we extend refine these views based on accumulating new findings content-specific beta-synchronization during endogenous information processing working memory (WM) decision making. We characterize such activity as short-lived, flexible network dynamics supporting (re)activation cortical representations. Specifically, suggest that beta-mediated ensemble formation within between areas may awake, rather than merely preserve, an cognitive set service task demands. This proposal accommodates key aspects modulations monkeys humans, integrates timely computational models, outlines a functional role for fits its transient temporal characteristics.

This paper considers functional integration in the brain from a computational perspective. We ask what sort of neuronal message passing is mandated by active inference-and implications this has for context-sensitive connectivity at microscopic and macroscopic levels. In particular, we formulate processing as belief propagation under deep generative models. Crucially, these models can entertain both discrete continuous states, leading to distinct schemes updating that play out on same (neuronal) architecture. Technically, use Forney (normal) factor graphs elucidate requisite terms its form scheduling. To accommodate mixed (of states), one also consider link nodes or factors enable representations talk each other. When mapping implicit architecture onto connectivity, several interesting features emerge. For example, Bayesian model averaging comparison, which may be implemented thalamocortical loops. These other considerations speak connectome inherently state dependent self-organizing ways yield principled (variational) account. conclude with simulations reading illustrate passing, special focus how (semantic) inform, are informed by, (visual) sampling sensorium.

Abstract Interoception is the sensing of internal bodily sensations. an umbrella term that encompasses (1) afferent (body‐to‐brain) signaling through distinct neural and humoral (including immune endocrine) channels; (2) encoding, representation, integration this information concerning state; (3) influence such on other perceptions, cognitions, behaviors; (4) psychological expression these representations as consciously accessible physical sensations feelings. Consequently, we show systematic investigation how individual differences, within‐individual changes, interoceptive processing can contribute to mechanistic understanding disorders. Pain is a vital phenomenon that depends on the dynamic integration of sensory and contextual processes. In chronic pain adaptive processes severely disturbed.
