Abstract Although many methods for automated fluorescent-labeled cell detection have been proposed, not all of them assume a highly inhomogeneous background arising from complex biological structures. Here, we propose an algorithm that accounts and subtracts the by avoiding high-intensity pixels in blur filtering calculation. Cells were detected intensity thresholding background-subtracted image, algorithm’s performance was tested on NeuN- c-Fos-stained images mouse prefrontal cortex hippocampal dentate gyrus. In addition, applications c-Fos positive counting quantification expression level double-labeled cells demonstrated. Our method after assumption (ADABA) offers advantage high-throughput unbiased analysis regions with structures produce background. Highlights - We proposed to subtract pattern. (79/85) automatically image. (71/85) The results corresponded manual detection. (73/85) Detection IEG overlapping neural marker (85/85)

For several decades, although studies of rat physiology and behavior have abounded, research on emotions has been limited in scope to fear, anxiety, pain. Converging evidence for the capacity many species share others’ affective states emerged, sparking interest empathic capacities rats. Recent demonstrated that rats are a highly cooperative motivated by distress prosocial actions, such as opening door or pulling chain release trapped conspecifics. Studies affect, cognition, neural function provide compelling some represent needs, instrumentally act improve their well-being, thus capable forms targeted helping. Rats’ complex abilities raise importance integrating new measures well-being into scientific research.

Abstract Expression of immediate early genes (IEGs) is critical for memory formation and has been widely used to identify the neural substrate traces, termed engram cells. However, types IEG have relatively not distinguished in identifying cells, as there limited knowledge about extent which different IEGs are selectively or concurrently involved engram. To address this question, we investigated combinative expression c-Fos, Arc, Npas4 proteins using immunohistochemistry following aversive rewarding experiences across subregions prefrontal cortex (PFC), basolateral amygdala (BLA), hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG), retrosplenial (RSC). Using an automated cell detection algorithm, found that patterns Npas4, Arc varied brain areas, with a higher increase expressing cells PFC posterior BLA than DG. The patterns, along their learning-induced changes, also differed areas; co-expression increased learning whereas was less pronounced DG RSC. Furthermore, demonstrate area-to-area functional connectivity networks were extracted by IEGs. These findings provide insights into how combinations will contribute deeper understanding significance IEG-tagged

Significant advancements have been made in the treatment of psychotic disorders, yet current pharmacotherapy remains inadequate. Symptoms related to misinterpretation reality are crucial for diagnosis but pose challenges preclinical research. In humans, a Mirror-Gazing test is used examine abnormal self-experience and predict risk schizophrenia. To address this, we developed task evaluate anomalous subjective experiences rats using Mirror-Preference test. Here demonstrate that naive show preference mirror chamber, which was followed by significant habituation over series trials. subsequent tests, utilized dimmed lighting net-covered mirrors induce incomplete images. Acute stimulation with amphetamine (AMPH, 3 mg/kg, i.p.) further increased mirror. model psychosis induced chronic AMPH administration, showed fewer shorter interactions maintained their chamber where psychotic-like animals were given additional (1.5 before testing. Here, surprising reversal observed, along decreased frequency duration contact, suggesting avoidance. The AMPH-presensitized also exhibited hyperlocomotion elevated anxiety, indicative behaviour. Although self-recognition rodents debatable, recent studies suggest they can discriminate We propose limited visual perception meets brain monoamine sensitization may trigger illusions as part state rats. ABSTRACT Background Since its discovery in the late 20th century, research on mirror neurons has become a pivotal area neuroscience, linked to various cognitive and social functions. This bibliometric analysis explores trajectory, key topics, future trends field of neuron research. Methods We searched Web Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database for publications from 1996 2024 Statistical visualization analyses were performed using CiteSpace VOSviewer. Results Publication output peaked 2013 remained active. High‐impact journals such as Science, Brain, Neuron, PNAS , NeuroImage frequently feature findings system, including distribution, neural coding, roles intention understanding, affective empathy, motor learning, autism, neurological disorders. Keyword clustering reveals major directions neurostimulation, whereas burst detection underscores emerging significance brain‐computer interfaces (BCIs). Research methodologies have been evolving traditional electrophysiological recordings advanced techniques functional magnetic resonance imaging, transcranial stimulation, BCIs, highlighting dynamic, multidisciplinary progression. Conclusions study identifies areas associated with anticipates that work will integrate artificial intelligence, clinical interventions, novel neuroimaging techniques, providing new perspectives complex socio‐cognitive issues their applications both basic science practice.

Body size awareness is the ability of animals to consider their bodies when interacting with environmental objects. It one manifestations body self-awareness. We studied in laboratory rats Wistar strain. In experiment, had pass through three holes a partition reach bait. each trial, shape, size, and position varied. The task first experiment was establish whether prefer larger holes, given that all were penetrable for bodies. second can choose only hole while other two greater area but impenetrable. results showed did not show preference holes. make approach subsequent penetration immediately into even before tactile contact partition. Thus, own solving penetrating hole, which sign awareness. These enrich our general understanding phenomenon
