Abstract Background Interpersonal emotion regulation is a culture-sensitive construct, but little research so far has investigated it in the Chinese culture, where collectivism emphasized and interpersonal harmony valued. Aims This study examined psychometric properties of version Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (IERQ) among caregiving parents children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs). Method A group 293 were recruited from two service centers for NDDs central China. The participants completed IERQ measures conceptually related constructs (cognitive quality life). Results confirmatory factor analyses suggested that bi-factor model was superior to original four-factor IERQ, implying cultural contextual specificity this parent group. instrument exhibited satisfactory internal consistency reliability, concurrent validity cognitive strategies, explanatory power life beyond strategies. Additionally, caregivers tended use less enhancing positive affect, soothing social modeling when compared American, Turkish Iranian samples. Conclusions To conclude, valid reliable self-report measure which can be used assess ways utilize others regulate their own emotions. Moreover, creating socially expressive, acceptable, inclusive atmosphere promote may crucial improve overall well-being.
