Depression is a global health problem with growing prevalence rates and serious impacts on the daily life of patients. However, side effects currently used antidepressants greatly reduce compliance Quercetin flavonol present in fruits, vegetables, Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that has been proved to have various pharmacological such as anti-depressant, anti-cancer, antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective. This review summarizes evidence for application quercetin treat depression. We clarified mechanisms regulating levels neurotransmitters, promoting regeneration hippocampal neurons, improving hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis dysfunction, reducing inflammatory states anti-oxidative stress. also summarized antidepressant some glycoside derivatives provide reference further research clinical application.

Depression is a major global health issue that urgently requires innovative and precise treatment options. In this context, saikosaponin has emerged as promising candidate, offering variety of therapeutic benefits may be effective in combating depression. This review delves into the multifaceted potential saikosaponins alleviating depressive symptoms. We summarized effects on structural functional neuroplasticity, elaborated regulatory mechanism modulating key factors affect such inflammation, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, oxidative stress, brain-gut axis. Moreover, paper highlights existing gaps current researches outlines directions for future studies. A detailed plan provided clinical application saikosaponins, advocating more targeted to speed up its transition from preclinical trials practice.

Abstract Traditional Chinese medicine is one of the most commonly used complementary and alternative therapies for depression. Integrated Chinese-western have been extensively applied in numerous diseases due to their superior efficiency individual treatment. We meta-analysis, network pharmacology, bioinformatics studies identify putative role Longya Lilium combined with Fluoxetine Depression-like behaviors were mimicked mice after exposure chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS). The underlying potential mechanism this combination therapy was further explored based on vitro vivo experiments analyze expression COX-2, PGE2, IL-22, activation microglial cells, neuron viability apoptosis hippocampus. antidepressant effect noted compared a single COX-2 mainly expressed hippocampal CA1 areas. reduced thus alleviated depression-like behavior neuroinflammation mice. A decrease curtailed BV-2 cell activation, inflammation, by blunting PGE2/IL-22 axis. Therefore, inactivates COX-2/PGE2/IL-22 axis, consequently relieving neuroinflammatory response resultant

The Mediterranean diet (MED), a dietary pattern rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, fish, olive oil, has anti-oxidative anti-inflammatory effects. Although some data suggest that MED adherence is associated with decreased manifestation of depressive symptoms, it remains necessary to further analyze this apparent non-linear association as well the influence different factors on relationship between depression. Here, we investigated associations alternate (aMED) score symptom via multivariate logistic regression, weighted generalized additive (GAM) two-step linear regression models, analyzing from 2005-2018 National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). most important factor relevant aMED contributed prevalence was assessed using random forest. Furthermore, examined whether differs by age, race, sex, socioeconomic variables, lifestyle- health-related chronic medical conditions, subgroup analyses. A total 19,477 participants (20-80 years age) were included cross-sectional study. In crude adjusted (1-5) increased noted associate non-depressive status, defined Patient Questionnaire-9 (P < 0.05). Data analyses GAM two-piecewise revealed symptom, which had an inflection point 3. Random forest results vegetable contributes greatest symptom. Neferine (Nef) might possess anti-depressive properties; however, its therapeutic effects are yet to be elucidated. Therefore, in this study, we aimed explore the anti-depressant property of Nef using a mouse model chronic stress-induced depression. Fifteen depression-prone mice were randomly selected and divided into three groups, namely, model, Nef, fluoxetine (Flu) groups. We observed that tail suspension forced swimming tests, Flu treatments significantly decreased immobility time depressed mice, increased their sucrose preference indices. Moreover, both induced significant increases levels neurotransmitters, including dopamine (DA), serotonin (5-HT), norepinephrine (NE), also reduced pathological damage hippocampus mice. Incidentally, Illumina MiSeq sequencing analysis demonstrated relative abundance Lactobacillus intestinal microbiota was restored after Nef/Flu treatment. colonic positively correlated with DA, 5-HT, NE In conclusion, improved monoamine neurotransmitter secretion modulated flora structure, particularly . Hence, it showed considerable potential, prospective agent.
