Five previously unreported 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) derivatives, including chinenfurfurals A (1) and B (2) as 5-HMF-citric acid hybrids C–E (3–5) 5-HMF oligomers, well four known analogues (6–9), were isolated from the fruits of a well-known Chinese herbal species Schisandra chinensis. The structures these furfural compounds established by detailed analyses spectroscopic data especially HRMS NMR, it is first report type constituents title species. in vitro anti-inflammatory property them was further evaluated testing their inhibition against production nitric oxide lipopolysaccharide-activated murine RAW264.7 macrophages, compound 6 showed moderate activity with an IC50 41.2 µM. In addition, also suppressed expression two inflammation-related proteins, namely, inducible synthase cyclooxygenase-2.

The genus Eupatorium belongs to the Asteraceae (Compositae) family and has multiple properties, such as invasiveness toxicity, is used in folk medicine. last review on chemical constituents of this their biological activities was published 2015. present provides an overview 192 natural products discovered from 2015 present. These include 63 sesquiterpenoids, 53 benzofuran derivatives, 39 thymol 15 fatty acids, 7 diterpenoids, 5 monoterpenoids, 4 acetophenones, 6 other compounds. We also characterized respective structures cytotoxic, antifungal, insecticidal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive activities.
