This comprehensive review explores the potential of tailored carbon materials (TCM) for efficient photocatalytic degradation polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are persistent and toxic organic pollutants posing significant environmental challenges. Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4), a polymeric semiconductor, has become rising star for photocatalytic energy conversion because of its facile accessibility, metal-free nature, low cost, and environmentally benign properties. This work reviews the latest progress g-C3N4-based materials in visible-light-driven water splitting to hydrogen. It begins with brief history g-C3N4, followed by various engineering strategies such as elemental doping, copolymerization, crystalline tailoring, surface engineering, single-atom modification, elevated decomposition. In addition, synthesis g-C3N4 different dimensions (0D, 1D, 2D, 3D) configurations series heterojunctions (type II, Z-scheme, S-scheme, g-C3N4/metal, g-C3N4/carbon heterojunctions) were also discussed their improvement hydrogen production. Lastly, challenges opportunities nanomaterials are provided. is anticipated that this review will promote further development emerging more efficiency

Polymeric carbon nitride (g-C3N4)-based Z-scheme photocatalysts have attracted widespread attention owing to their notable light-harvesting capability, spatially separated reductive and oxidative active sites, strong redox ability. This review article presents a panorama of the latest developments g-C3N4-based for various applications. The development status basic working principle is introduced. After that, characterization technologies are discussed. Later, series representative photocatalytic applications, including water splitting, CO2 reduction, N2 fixation, H2O2 production exemplified. Finally, this offers some perspectives on major challenges opportunities future research in emerging field.
