Short video usage poses risks to the health and academic performance of university students. Physical activity (PA) has been recommended as a potential solution mitigate excessive short its associated consequences. However, current research paid limited attention impact PA on different behaviors. Therefore, we conducted cross-sectional survey from April 24 30, 2024, collect data examine relationship between usage, with depression mediator, in domain-specific contexts (including during daytime nighttime, study time leisure time, overall addiction). A total 1172 students who met inclusion criteria were included analysis. Our structural equation modeling analysis revealed that was directly only reduced nighttime (β = -0.12; p < 0.05). Background In recent years, mobile phone addiction (MPA) has emerged as a significant public health concern, particularly among university students. Physical activity (PA) is believed to exert beneficial influence on MPA within this demographic. However, the extent which moderated by other factors remains uncertain. Evidence points self-control and resilience potential mediators that may partially account for positive impact of PA MPA. Accordingly, study seeks investigate effect mediating role in relationship through chain-mediated model. Methods The involved 413 Chinese students (208 males, mean age 20.59 ± 1.17 years), who completed Rating Scale (PARS-3), Connor-Davidson Resilience (CD-RISC), Self-Control (SCS), Mobile Phone Addiction Index (MPAI), along with psychosocial assessments. Pearson’s correlation was employed analyze relationships between variables, while mediation models were examined using SPSS PROCESS bootstrapped regression analysis. An aim of this study was to evaluate the precision and reliability problematic mobile phone use scale in context Russia investigate frequency associated factors among university students.
