Background: Although cataract surgery has been proposed as a potentially modifiable protective factor for enhancing emotional well-being in patients, studies examining the relationship between anxiety or depression and have yielded inconsistent findings. This review summarizes existing evidence to establish whether is associated with older adults. Methods: A literature search was conducted across PubMed, Medline, Web of Science, Embase databases. An initial screening by abstracts titles performed, followed assessment methodological quality relevant full papers, final inclusion 44 were deemed eligible this review. Results: Among included studies, 36 (81.8%) observational concerning association cataracts depression, four (9.1%) interventional reviews. Cataract notably enhances mental health individuals impaired vision. However, multifaceted nature psychological well-being, influenced various factors, suggests that may not address all aspects comprehensively. Additionally, preoperative significantly impact outcomes. Conclusion: Vision impairment adults closely increased symptoms anxiety. While surgical intervention improves these symptoms, it might be less effective disorders multifactorial causes. Notably, poses challenges successful intraoperative surgeries.

Abstract Multisensory decline is common as people age, and aging the primary risk of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). Recent studies have begun to shed light on possibility that age-related sensory could accelerate AD pathogenesis, or be a prodromal indicator AD. Sensory impairments, specifically in taste smell, often emerge before cognitive symptoms AD, indicating their potential early biomarkers. Olfactory dysfunction has been frequently associated with may offer valuable insights into detection. Hearing impairment significantly but its causal impact progression remains unclear. The review also discusses visual tactile deficits including retinal thinning changes perception, highlighting links disease progression. Focusing molecular mechanisms, explores roles amyloid-β (Aβ) accumulation tau protein pathology bidirectional relationship In summary, evidence presented conclusively supports advocating for an integrated approach understanding decline, enhance detection, implementing preventive strategies, developing therapeutic interventions This underscores significance health addressing neurodegenerative diseases, particularly

To evaluate the safety, visual performance, and patient satisfaction of a new presbyopic pseudophakic intraocular lens (IOL). An ambispective non-randomized study was performed in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Patients included underwent programmed femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS), between October 2020 September 2021, with 24-month follow-up period. The Intensity SL (Hanita Lenses) IOL bilaterally implanted. Uncorrected distance, intermediate, near acuity (UDVA/UIVA/UNVA, respectively), defocus curve as well safety parameters were measured, evaluated VF-14 QOL questionnaire. A total 120 eyes 60 patients (34 women 26 men) aged 68.32 ± 8.9 years (54-85) included. Recent advancements in cataract surgery have broadened its scope from mere vision restoration to include correction of refractive errors and presbyopia. This evolution has introduced multifocal extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) intraocular lenses (IOLs), allowing enhanced across multiple distances. However, the influence these advanced IOLs on stereopsis remains controversial. Factors influencing after visual acuity, interocular differences, residual astigmatism, type IOL, etc. Binocular integration neuroadaptation further affect stereopsis, especially cases presbyopia-correcting IOLs. It is widely acknowledged that bilateral implantation yield superior compared unilateral implantation. there no consensus whether binocular or monofocal provides stereopsis. Most studies suggest significant difference between two types implants. Among different IOLs, may offer better than diffractive when implanted bilaterally. Emerging EDOF hybrid multifocal-EDOF also demonstrate promising postoperative Additionally, a mix-and-match strategy with each eye result differences acuity at certain distances, potentially affecting Nevertheless, appropriate selection, most patients can achieve satisfactory review synthesizes current literature effects recovery following surgery. Studies outcomes yielded mixed results, urging investigation for optimized surgical strategies patient outcomes.
