An

toward
harnessing
nutraceuticals
as
food
supplements
rather
than
pharmaceuticals
curative
and
preventive
agents
against
various
ailments
has
been
observed.
Owing
to
their
health
benefits,
prebiotics
have
received
notable
attention
from
the
pharmaceutical
industries.
Among
different
prebiotic
oligosaccharides,
xylooligosaccharides
(XOS)
exhibited
a
remarkable
capacity
stimulate
growth
of
gut
microbiota
benefit
individuals
with
metabolic
abnormalities.
Additionally,
XOS
can
be
produced
renewable
agricultural
wastes,
which
supports
economic
feasibility
for
use
at
industrial
level.
This
review
explains
microbiome
modulation
based
on
in
vivo,
vitro,
clinical
findings.

Background/Objectives:
Small
Intestinal
Bacterial
Overgrowth
(SIBO)
and
Fungal
(SIFO)
are
distinct
yet
often
overlapping
conditions
characterized
by
an
abnormal
increase
in
microbial
populations
within
the
small
intestine.
SIBO
results
from
overgrowth
of
colonic
bacteria,
while
SIFO
is
driven
fungal
overgrowth,
primarily
involving
Candida
species.
Both
present
with
nonspecific
gastrointestinal
(GI)
symptoms
such
as
bloating,
abdominal
pain,
diarrhea,
malabsorption,
making
differentiation
between
challenging.
This
review
aims
to
elucidate
underlying
mechanisms,
risk
factors,
diagnostic
challenges,
management
strategies
associated
SIFO.
Methods:
A
comprehensive
current
literature
was
conducted,
focusing
on
pathophysiology,
modalities,
therapeutic
approaches
for
