Acute
psychosocial
stress
effects
on
inhibition

adults,

little
is
known
about
these
older
adults.

present
study
of
the
Trier
Social
Stress
Test
cognitive
(i.e.,
ability
to
ignore
distracting
information)
using
a
cross-over
(stress
vs.
control)
design
healthy

18-30
years;

Background/Objectives:
Suicidal
behaviors
(SBs)
and
non-suicidal
self-injury
(NSSI)
are
significant
mental
health
concerns
in
children
adolescents.
The
hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal
(HPA)
axis,
of
which
cortisol
is
a
key
hormone,
has
been
implicated
these
behaviors.
This
narrative
review
aims
to
explore
whether
levels
play
role
SBs
NSSI
youth
synthesize
current
evidence
on
this
topic.
Methods:
A
comprehensive
literature
search
was
conducted
studies
published
through
November
2024,
using
PubMed,
Web
Science,
Google
Scholar
databases.
Studies
were
screened
for
eligibility,
including
only
human
English,
with
no
animal
models
or
excluding
levels.
synthesis
approach
used

the
methodological
diversity
across
studies.

limited
adolescent-focused
research,
involving
adults
also
considered.
Results:
Findings
indicate
inconsistent
patterns

NSSI.
Elevated
linked
SBs,
some
suggesting
they
may
predict
future
suicide
attempts,
though
definitive
cause-and-effect
relationship
established.
Conversely,
show
mixed
results,
reporting
differences.
Cortisol
responses
stress,
measured
by
saliva,
blood,
hair,
reveal
complex
interactions
psychological
factors
such
as
depression
impulsivity,
influencing
secretion.
Discussion:
Despite
pointing
dysregulation
NSSI,
remains
unclear
study
heterogeneity,
small
sample
sizes
variations.
Gender
type
stressor
complicate
findings.
Future
research
should
prioritize
longitudinal
studies,
better
control
confounding
factors,
utilize
more
diverse
assessment
methods
clarify
links.
Conclusions:

pathophysiology

reliable

Abstract
Psychological
factors
are
amongst
the
most
robust
predictors
of
healthspan
and
longevity,
yet
rarely
incorporated
into
scientific
medical
frameworks
aging.
The
prospect
characterizing
integrating
psychological
influences
aging
is
therefore
an
unmet
step
for
advancement
geroscience.
Psychogenic
Aging
research
emerging
branch
biogerontology
that
aims
to
address
this
gap
by
investigating
impact
on
human
longevity.
It
interdisciplinary
field
integrates
complex
psychological,
neurological,
molecular
relationships
can
be
best
understood
with
precision
medicine
methodologies.
This
perspective
argues
psychogenic
should
considered
integral
component
Hallmarks
framework,
opening
doors
future
biopsychosocial
integration
in
longevity
research.
By
providing
a
unique
frequently
overlooked
aspects
organismal
aging,
offers
new
insights
