Acute psychosocial stress effects on inhibition have been investigated in young adults, but little is known about these older adults. The present study of the Trier Social Stress Test cognitive (i.e., ability to ignore distracting information) using a cross-over (stress vs. control) design healthy (N = 50; 18-30 years; Mage 23.06) versus adults 65-84 71.12). Cognitive was measured by letter flanker task and psychophysiological measures (cortisol, heart rate, subjective stress) validated induction. results showed that while impaired overall accuracy across age groups sessions, (vs. made adults' faster session 1 slower 2. Given 2 were likely confounded practice effects, suggest acute improved RTs novel practiced task. That is, interaction between learning might negatively affect response execution when testing tasks. If confirmed future research, important implications especially settings where repeated performed under stress.

Medical illnesses are major stressors not only for the patients but also their family caregivers, yet existing tools inadequate to assess mechanistic response patterns such stressors. We sought validate a stress induction task that pertains close relationships and health-related concerns with adult cancer caregivers. Patients newly diagnosed colorectal (n = 123, 56 years old, 34% female, 60% Hispanic, 6.5 months post-diagnosis) caregivers (55 66% 59% Hispanic) underwent an experimental session during which both individuals imagined scenario where one person is hit by car (patient) partner (caregiver) has no means provide or seek out help victim. The consisted of 6 phases: baseline, provision, speech preparation, caregiver, patient, recovery. Background/Objectives: Suicidal behaviors (SBs) and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) are significant mental health concerns in children adolescents. The hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis, of which cortisol is a key hormone, has been implicated these behaviors. This narrative review aims to explore whether levels play role SBs NSSI youth synthesize current evidence on this topic. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted studies published through November 2024, using PubMed, Web Science, Google Scholar databases. Studies were screened for eligibility, including only human English, with no animal models or excluding levels. synthesis approach used due the methodological diversity across studies. Due limited adolescent-focused research, involving adults also considered. Results: Findings indicate inconsistent patterns relation NSSI. Elevated linked SBs, some suggesting they may predict future suicide attempts, though definitive cause-and-effect relationship established. Conversely, show mixed results, reporting differences. Cortisol responses stress, measured by saliva, blood, hair, reveal complex interactions psychological factors such as depression impulsivity, influencing secretion. Discussion: Despite pointing dysregulation NSSI, remains unclear study heterogeneity, small sample sizes variations. Gender type stressor complicate findings. Future research should prioritize longitudinal studies, better control confounding factors, utilize more diverse assessment methods clarify links. Conclusions: While pathophysiology further needed establish clearer, reliable patterns. Identifying alterations aid early detection targeted interventions at-risk

Our current understanding of the human stress response and its role in health, resilience, (psycho)pathology stems largely from acute studies controlled laboratory settings. Comparability findings across these individual is comprised, as sample size are often small, between-individual variation large stress-induction procedures measurement timing substantial. To overcome this, 16 research groups Europe have established STRESS-EU database. A unique resource with participant data (n = 6576) to promote reuse facilitate both meta-analytical proof-of-principle analyses high statistical power, that can be hypothesis- or data-driven. This short communication highlights structure, content, access contribution future plans database invited researchers worldwide contribute this resource.

Abstract Psychological factors are amongst the most robust predictors of healthspan and longevity, yet rarely incorporated into scientific medical frameworks aging. The prospect characterizing integrating psychological influences aging is therefore an unmet step for advancement geroscience. Psychogenic Aging research emerging branch biogerontology that aims to address this gap by investigating impact on human longevity. It interdisciplinary field integrates complex psychological, neurological, molecular relationships can be best understood with precision medicine methodologies. This perspective argues psychogenic should considered integral component Hallmarks framework, opening doors future biopsychosocial integration in longevity research. By providing a unique frequently overlooked aspects organismal aging, offers new insights targets anti-aging therapeutics individual societal levels significantly benefit communities.

Researchers commonly assess the functioning of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis by measuring natural fluctuations its end product cortisol throughout day or in response to a standardized stressor. Although it is conceivable that an individual releasing relatively more when confronted with laboratory stressor does same everyday life, inconsistencies remain literature regarding associations between diurnal parameters and stress responses. Hence, current meta-analysis aggregated findings 12 studies examine overall (including total output, slope, awakening [CAR]) reactivity recovery Trier Social Stress Test (TSST). There were no significant CAR reactivity. Lower output was significantly related better recovery, whereas slope unrelated recovery. Moderation analyses revealed responses dependent on computation method parameters, questioning convergence validity employed measures Overall, seems we cannot predict characteristics rhythm from one-time measure psychosocial paradigm.
