Abstract Metabolic‐associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) has become one of the most widespread metabolic diseases nowadays, while no definitive agent is approved for practical treatment. Given excessive lipid deposition and cellular oxidative stress are two main inducers MAFLD, developing synergistic therapeutic agents that enhance metabolism antioxidative ability effective routes MAFLD therapy. Herein, a novel kind bio‐functional carbon dots (MTCDs) derived from metformin tea polyphenols based on fused pharmacophore strategy developed. The surface MTCDs retains abundant phenolic hydroxyl guanidine groups, which designed to reduce both in liver. Moreover, by finely controlling charge, exhibit excellent lysosome targeting functionality with favorable biocompatibility low biotoxicity. Mechanistical studies further reveal treatment protects lysosomes damage activates hepatocyte AMP‐activated protein kinase signaling, initiates lipophagy progress accelerate lipolysis consumption. Collectively, these propose an “two birds stone” tool therapy suggest viable multi‐pharmacophore development.

As far as health benefit is concerned, dark tea one of the best beverages in world. Theabrownins are major ingredient contributing to benefits and known "the soft gold tea." A growing body evidence indicated that theabrownins macromolecular pigments with reddish-brown color mellow taste, mainly derived from oxidative polymerization polyphenols. main active ingredients which brings multiple health-promoting effects modulating lipid metabolism, reducing weight gain, attenuating diabetes, mitigating NAFLD, scavenging ROS, preventing tumors. More importantly, it's their substantial generation microbial fermentation endows much stronger hypolipidemic effect compared other types tea. This review firstly summarizes most recent findings on preparation, structural characteristics, theabrownins, emphasizing underlying molecular mechanism, especially different mechanisms behind theabrownins-mediated gut microbiota host's benefits. Furthermore, this points out limitations current research potential future directions, hoping provide updated scientific for better theoretical industrial utilization.
