Abstract Global industrialization and excessive dependence on nonrenewable energy sources have led to an increase in solid waste climate change, calling for strategies implement a circular economy all sectors reduce carbon emissions by 45% 2030, achieve neutrality 2050. Here we review with focus management, energy, air water quality, land use, industry, food production, life cycle assessment, cost-effective routes. We observed that increasing the use of bio-based materials is challenge terms cover. Carbon removal technologies are actually prohibitively expensive, ranging from 100 1200 dollars per ton dioxide. Politically, only few companies worldwide set change goals. While can be implemented various such as waste, buildings, transportation, assessment required optimize new systems. Overall, provide theoretical foundation sustainable industrial, agricultural, commercial future constructing routes economy.

Due to climate change, two-thirds of mankind will face water scarcity by 2025, while 2050, global food production must increase at least 50% feed 9 billion people. To overcome scarcity, 15 million m3/day untreated wastewater is used globally for crop irrigation, polluting the soil with pathogens, heavy metals and excess salts. Since 10% population consumes from crops irrigated wastewater, pathogens transmitted through chain cause diseases especially in young children women. In this paper, we discuss status challenges security, reuse agriculture possible risks human environmental health. The efficiency different irrigation systems limiting latest regulations European Commission on effluent recovery are also presented. Hence, emphasize that offers real perspectives large-scale helping reduce deficit conserve resources, increasing safety, express mention investments be made treatment plants properly treated before recovery, limit health environment.

Wastewater treatment involves the extraction of pollutants, removal coarse particles, and elimination toxicants. Moreover, wastewater kills pathogens produces bio-methane fresh manure for agricultural production. The connection between waste management sustainability created basis this research. is part efforts to minimize water waste, pressure on natural sources water, create a pathway clean energy. A systematic literature review was selected study evaluate synthesize available evidence in support both economic environmental sustainability. articles were evaluated using PRISMA framework identify most appropriate inclusion. total 46 based their content validity, relevance research question, strength evidence, year publication (2000–2023), sustainable resource management. findings indicate that enables by improving supply minimizing resources, energy recovery, support. provides one approaches conservation, production, productivity.

As the most important resource for life, water has been a central issue on international agenda several decades. Yet, world’s supply of clean freshwater is steadily decreasing due to extensive agricultural demand irrigated lands. Therefore, resources should be used with greater efficiency, and use non-traditional resources, such as Treated Wastewater (TW), increased. Reusing TW could an alternative option increase resources. Thus, many countries have decided turn wastewater into irrigation help meet urban address shortages. However, because nature that water, there are potential problems associated its in irrigation. Some major concerns health hazards, salinity build-up, toxicity hazards. The objectives this comprehensive literature review illuminate importance using source assess effects soil fertility other properties, plants, public health. reveals reuse become part extension program boosting utilization. uncontrolled application waters unfavorable both soils especially long-term. To reduce these when irrigation, proper guidelines management followed limit negative significantly.

Climate change, global population growth, and rising standards of living have put immense strain on natural resources, resulting in the unsecured availability water as an existential resource. Access to high-quality drinking is crucial for daily life, food production, industry, nature. However, demand freshwater resources exceeds available supply, making it essential utilize all alternative such desalination brackish water, seawater, wastewater. Reverse osmosis a highly efficient method increase supplies make clean, affordable accessible millions people. ensure universal access various measures need be implemented, including centralized governance, educational campaigns, improvements catchment harvesting technologies, infrastructure development, irrigation agricultural practices, pollution control, investments novel transboundary cooperation. This paper provides comprehensive overview utilizing sources, with particular emphasis seawater wastewater reclamation techniques. In particular, membrane-based technologies are critically reviewed, focus their energy consumption, costs, environmental impacts.

Water resources are under pressure worldwide, resulting in scarcity and deterioration of freshwater quality. According to European directives, we could reduce the on water urban areas by increasing reuse treated wastewater, reducing impact bodies, promoting recycling through multiple uses wastewater. Besides need address supply challenges, wastewater treatment systems show environmental stewardship innovative practices. Using reclaimed for agricultural irrigation is gaining interest because drought conditions experienced Europe over past few years. Furthermore, using may help restore nutrients (N P) natural biogeochemical cycles. This review highlights importance reuse, current legislation, existing technologies implement meet minimum requirements produce irrigation.
