This study focuses on achieving climate neutrality in European cities by integrating solar energy technologies and nature-based solutions. Through an examination of current practices, emerging trends, case examples, the explores benefits, challenges, prospects associated with this integration urban contexts. A pioneering approach is presented to assess heat change mitigation benefits combining building-integrated photovoltaics solutions within context. The results highlight synergistic relationship between components conversion technology, identifying effective combinations for different climatic zones. In Southern Europe, strategies such as rooftop cool roofs, photovoltaic shadings, green walls, trees have demonstrated effectiveness warmer regions. Conversely, mid- high-latitude seen positive impacts through facades roofs spaces. As cell efficiency improves, environmental impact expected decrease, facilitating their into environments. emphasizes importance incorporating water bodies, pavements, spaces high sky-view factors, planning design maximize resilience benefits. Additionally, highlights significance prioritizing actions low-income regions engaging citizens development social photovoltaics-positive houses, resilient neighbourhoods, By adopting these recommendations, can create climate-neutral environments that prioritize clean energy, solutions, overall wellbeing residents. findings underscore need a multidisciplinary technological innovation, strategies, policy frameworks effectively achieve neutrality.

Urban areas are experiencing excessive heating. Addressing the heat is a challenging but essential task where not only engineering and climatic knowledge matters also deep understanding of social economic dimensions. We synthesize state art in mitigation technologies develop an 'ITE index' framework that evaluates investment (I), time for implementation (T), effectiveness (E) candidate measures. Using this framework, we assess 247 multimeasure-centric solution sets composed all possible combinations 8 individual The multidimensional ITE index quantified based on different urban scales, levels, impact local climate zones (LCZs), professionals' perceptions using analytical hierarchy process. top 50 unique consist 4–7 measures across LCZs, with use thermally efficient buildings high-efficiency indoor cooling being two recurrent contributing to best sets. While every city varies terms its ideal sets, provide decision-making which dimensions can be integrated, understood, quantified.

Nowadays, advanced building envelopes not only need to meet traditional design requirements but also address emerging demands, such as achieving low-carbon transition of buildings and mitigating the urban heat island (UHI) effect. Given intricacy indoor conditions complexity variables, approaches can hardly keep pace with evolving demands. Therefore, integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into envelope is trending in recent years. This paper provides a holistic review research on machine learning (ML) design. Popular ML algorithms, data input requirements, output generation are first elucidated, aiming shed light selection appropriate algorithms for specific datasets achieve optimal outcomes. ML-involved studies related types (e.g., building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV), green roofs, PCM-integrated walls, glazing systems, etc.) discussed. The further highlights capabilities AI technologies predicting parameters material properties, environmental impact) optimizing criteria minimizing energy consumption), from micro-scope (i.e., microenvironment) macro-scope impact heat). work anticipated yield valuable insights promoting AI-driven solutions tackle both conventional challenges sustainable development.
