The wide occurrence and expansive nature of invasive plant species are worldwide problems because these plants by their competitive character can lead to the loss biodiversity. As a result, they significantly disrupt ecosystems, create economic damage threats human health, diminish quality recreational resources. Therefore, sustainable, bio-based solutions needed for control, focusing on utilization biomass after eradication. To better understand potential application possibilities role in bioeconomy, such as Lupinus polyphyllus—Lindl., Impatiens glandulifera Royle, Heracleum sosnowskyi Manden, Solidago canadensis L., Echinocystis lobata (Michx.), Elodea Michx. were studied. These not only widely spread but also form dense mono-stands produce substantial amounts biomass, which provides more options harvesting. In particular, composition was analysed assess feasibility use bioactive compound extraction. amount total polyphenols flavonoids determined various parts studied plants, corresponding radical scavenging activities using DPPH, ABTS, FRAP CUPRAC. rich sources polyphenols, highest concentrations found leaves, reaching concentration 7.78–11.75 g GAE/100 DW, polyphyllus, identified extracts flowers (12.77 DW) leaves (11.88 plant. Among studied, consistently showed flavonoids, well greatest antioxidant activities. findings underscore source valuable substances, particularly eradication species.

The current work is aimed at generating the first inventory of South African medicinal plants used in treatment sexually transmitted and related opportunistic infections associated with HIV-AIDS. This important assisting researchers to access a list plant species evaluate for potential phytocompounds, as this area research greatly lagging Africa. A total 335 from 103 families have been documented work. most represented are Fabaceae (11.64%) Asteraceae (6.27%). Herbs constitute 36.53%, trees 32.34%, shrubs 29.04%, climbers 1.80% parasites 0.30%. It worrying that on parts used, roots 47.18%, while leaves stem bark yield 16.62 15.01%, respectively. Catharanthus roseus exhibited highest number citations (19), Peltophorum africanum had 14 both Carica papaya Vachelia karoo 12. In mode administration reported species, boiled taken orally (48.22%), other mouth washes (3.25%). Although there reasonable vitro activity some validating relevance use, still need explore action such species; isolated compounds possible derivatives thereof paramount importance be explored well. Furthermore, toxicological aspects explored.

South Africa hosts >1.2 million immigrants, 75% from Africa. The inter- and intra-continental diaspora of immigrant groups, the movement biological commodities, effects a parallel plants, animals, pathogens to regions where they are non-native, an allied traditional practices associated with commodity use. Plants dual purposes food medicine repeatedly introduced into new countries by waves immigration. motivation for species selection may reflect cultural importance, geographic origin, diseases migration. With this in mind, study aimed investigate medicinal their uses, which imported healthcare traders Johannesburg, highlight routes alien plant introduction. Semi-structured interviews 25 originally Democratic Republic Congo, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Ghana, Nigeria Somalia were conducted. Sixty-six recorded (60 Africa) that treated conditions 15 broad biomedical categories. Species primarily treat non-communicable (NCDs), most frequently cited being diabetes, back pain, influenza, stomach haemorrhoids, male sexual performance. use plants 'home' is assumed strengthen immigrant's sense identity country, some seemingly too important leave behind; linked these selections affiliated more 'disease transition', including NCDs. Some require assessments risk becoming invasive. These results flag international trade as introduction pathway plants.

This dataset is a an inventory of 475 alien plant taxa (447 identified to species), including photo-guide 96 plants, mostly sold as traditional medicines in three South African cities by traders African, West East Indian and Chinese origin (Williams et al., 2021). The also incorporates species documented literature survey plants used for Africa. consolidation the data from two separate investigations 106 medicinal traders: firstly, study conducted 2010/2011 77 markets shops Johannesburg, Pretoria Durban 2021); secondly, 2017/2018 29 (im)migrant listed TCM (Traditional Medicine) catalogue (Burness, 2019). Accompanying each photograph following information: name; common name(s) provided respondents; invasive category; introduction status; voucher specimen number(s); nationality medicine traders; and, notes on source localities (e.g. imported or collected southern Africa). Overall, most were Asteraceae (12%), Fabaceae (9%) Poaceae (5%). are unlisted (76%) with respect their legal status Africa terms National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act (NEM:BA), 2004 Alien & Invasive Species (A&IS) regulations. frequently recorded various surveys Glycyrrhiza glabra, Acorus calamus, Angelica sinensis Zingiber officinale.

V obdobju 2000-2022 smo izvajali spremljanje kmetijskih površin in nekaterih ob agrarnih habitatov po vsem ozemlju Slovenije glede pojavnosti tujerodnih invazivnih rastlin. Tujerodne rastline evidentirali podali ocene o velikosti populacij.
