Bioremediation of organic contaminants has become a major environmental concern in the last few years, due to its bio-resistance and potential accumulate environment. The use diverse technologies, involving chemical physical principles, passive uptake utilizing sorption using ecofriendly substrates have drawn lot interest. Biochar got attention mainly simplicity manufacturing, treatment, disposal, as it is less expensive more efficient material, for remediation contaminants. This review highlighted adverse impact persistent pollutants on environment soil biota. utilization biochar remediate contaminated compounds i.e., pesticides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, antibiotics, dyes also been discussed. application significant biodegradation, leaching, sorption/desorption influenced by composition structure, porosity, surface area, pH, elemental ratios, functional groups biochar. All above characteristics depend type feedstock pyrolysis conditions. However, concentration nature significantly alters capability Therefore, physicochemical properties soils/wastewater, contaminants, should be evaluated before wastewater. Future initiatives, however, are needed develop biochars with better adsorption capacity, long-term sustainability xenobiotic/organic contaminant strategy.

Agricultural production relies heavily on pesticides. However, factors like inefficient application, pesticide resistance, and environmental conditions reduce their effective utilization in agriculture. Subsequently, pesticides transfer into the soil, adversely affecting its physicochemical properties, microbial populations, enzyme activities. Different interacting can lead to combined toxicity, posing risks non-target organisms, biodiversity, organism-environment interactions. Pesticide exposure may cause both acute chronic effects human health. Biochar, with high specific surface area porosity, offers numerous adsorption sites. Its stability, eco-friendliness, superior capabilities render it an excellent choice. As a versatile material, biochar finds use agriculture, management, industry, energy, medicine. Added helps absorb or degrade contaminated areas, enhancing soil activity. Current research primarily focuses produced via direct pyrolysis for adsorption. Studies functionalized this purpose are relatively scarce. This review examines biochar's absorption characteristics, formation mechanisms, impact, delves functionalization methods, prospects limitations.
