Abstract How to build a sustainable seaweed industry is important in Europe’s quest produce 8 million tons of by 2030. Based on interviews with representatives and an expert-workshop, we developed interdisciplinary roadmap that addresses development holistically. We argue practices must leverage synergies existing industries (e.g. IMTA systems, offshore wind farms), as the develops beyond experimental cultivation towards economic viability.

Quinoa consumption has increased in worldwide importance due to an extraordinary nutritional value and public acceptance as alternative food. Fatty acid profiles of 10 quinoa varieties grown the same geographical location were analyzed using different chemometric multivariate approaches [variable partial least square discriminant analysis (VIP-PLS-DA), stepwise linear (S-LDA), (LDA), random forests (RF) canonical principal components (CAP)]. The application variable selection such S-LDA LDA significantly classification accuracy (78% 74% respectively) samples according their variety. approach allowed reduce number selected fatty acids, representing those acids with higher statistical significance when applying other non-random approaches. The presence of anthropogenic compounds, including organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), was studied in three salt marshes within the Tagus estuary, Portugal, along an pressure gradient. Results revealed differences OCPs PCBs among marshes, with differing concentration levels. Specifically, one marsh, surrounding agricultural activity, showed highest OCP concentrations, while another, a historical industrial past, exhibited elevated PCB In contrast, third part natural reserve, displayed comparatively lower concentrations both substances. Sediment likely influenced by practices, were found to be comparable or higher than those observed other Portuguese estuaries. halophyte Spartina maritima absorb OCPs, particularly its aboveground tissues, suggesting bioaccumulation plant.
