Aspartame, a widely used artificial sweetener, is present in many food products and beverages worldwide. It has been linked to potential neurotoxicity developmental defects. However, its teratogenic effect on embryonic development the underlying mechanisms need be elucidated. We investigated concentration- time-dependent effects of aspartame zebrafish teratogenicity. focused role sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) Forkhead-box transcription factor (FOXO), two proteins that play key roles neurodevelopment. was found exposure reduced formation larvae cartilage zebrafish. also delayed post-fertilization by altering head length locomotor behavior RNA-sequencing-based DEG analysis showed SIRT1 FOXO3a are involved In silico vitro analyses could target reduce expression neuron cells. Additionally, triggered reduction autophagy flux inhibiting nuclear translocation neuronal The findings suggest can cause defects teratogenicity embryos impairing SIRT1/FOXO3a axis

The presence of contaminants in the environment has increased recent years, and studies have demonstrated that these ability to penetrate blood–retinal barrier directly affect visual systems organisms. Zebrafish are recognized as an ideal model for human eye diseases due their anatomical functional similarities eye, making them efficient versatile organism studying ocular toxicity caused by environmental field toxicology. Meanwhile, zebrafish exhibit a diverse repertoire visually mediated behaviors, system undergoes complex changes behavioral responses when exposed contaminants, enabling rapid assessment induced such pollutants. Therefore, this review aimed highlight effectiveness examining effects on development. Special attention is given behavior zebrafish, which allows resulting from exposure contaminants. Additionally, potential mechanisms may induce briefly outlined.
