The response of bacterioplankton structure to salinity level in coastal lakes (n = 9) along the southern Baltic Sea coastline was studied. In terms mean levels (0.2−5.2 PSU), represented freshwater, transitional, and brackish types. Results showed that determines spatial seasonal distribution patterns microorganisms costal lakes. Increased contributed a significant decline total bacterial numbers (TBN). TBN lowest autumn (4 × 106 cells/mL) highest freshwater summer (7.11 cells/mL). groups Proteobacteria are appropriate bioindicators any classifications ecosystems, particularly at low-haline stress. Alpha- Gamma- subclasses identifiers for habitats, while Betaproteobacteria, due their intolerance haline stress, prefer habitats. Counts euryhaline Actinobacteria, dominant group (31.8%), decreased significantly with increased salinity. Actinobacteria Deltaproteobacteria were transitional Cytophaga-Flavobacteria affinity but this relation not statistically (p > 0.05). bacteria correlated other physico-chemical parameters water, such as oxygenation (Actinobacteria) or organic carbon (Betaproteobacteria, Deltaproteobacteria). impact hydrological connectivity salt-water interference on microbiota biogeochemistry waters should be considered assessment ecological status
