The global rise of single-use throw-away plastic products has elicited a massive increase in the nano/microplastics (N/MPLs) exposure burden humans. Recently, it been demonstrated that disposable period may release N/MPLs with usage, which represents potential threat to women's health not scientifically addressed yet. By using polyethyl ene (PE) particles (200 nm 9 μm), we showed acute high concentration induced cell toxicity vaginal keratinocytes after effective cellular uptake, as viability and apoptosis data suggest, along transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations. internalised altered expression junctional adherence proteins organisation actin cortex, influencing level genes involved oxidative stress signalling pathways miRNAs related epithelial barrier function. When PE was discontinued or became chronic, cells were able recover from negative effects on differentiation/proliferation gene few days. However, all cases, N/MPL prompted sustained alteration DNA methyltransferase demethylase expression, might impact epigenetic regulation processes, leading accelerated ageing inflammation, occurrence malignant transformation.

Nanoplastics are common contaminants in the living environment. Thus far, no investigations have focused on small intestinal injury offspring of adult mice that were exposed to nanoplastics through respiratory system during pregnancy. Here, we evaluated potential subjected maternal 80 nm polystyrene nanoparticle (PS-NP) exposure gestation. PS-NP significantly reduced birth weight female compared with male mice. However, body weights and substantially greater PS-NP-exposed groups. Additionally, found PS-NPs pregnancy caused histological changes intestines both offspring. Mechanistic analysis revealed upregulation reactive oxygen species intestines, as indicated by levels superoxide dismutase (SOD) malondialdehyde (MDA). Furthermore, led downregulation GPx4, FTH1, FTL protein levels, indicating initiation ferroptosis. Notably, mRNA expression differed between Although all phenotypes failed demonstrate classic dose-dependent effects, data imply toxicity is than Our results suggest causes sex-specific toxicity, which might contribute activation subsequent Overall, this study showed toxic effects after

The increase of micro- and nano-plastics (MNPs) in aquatic environments has become a significant concern due to their potential toxicological effects on ecosystems, food web dynamics, human health. These plastic particles emerge from range sources, such as the breakdown larger waste, consumer products, industrial outputs. This review provides detailed report transmission dangers MNPs environmental behavior, interactions within webs, emphasizing toxic impact marine life. It explores relationship between particle size toxicity, distribution different tissues, process trophic transfer through web. MNPs, once consumed, can be found various organs, including digestive system, gills, liver. Their consumption by lower level organisms facilitates progression up chain, potentially leading bioaccumulation biomagnification, thereby posing substantial risks health, reproduction, behavior species. work also how persistence bioaccumulation, pose biodiversity disrupt relationships. addresses implications for particularly contaminated seafood, highlighting direct indirect pathways which humans are exposed these pollutants. Micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs), emerging as pervasive environmental pollutants, present multifaceted threats to diverse ecosystems. This review critically examines the ability of MNPs traverse biological barriers in fish, leading their accumulation gonadal tissues subsequent reproductive toxicity. A focal concern is potential transgenerational harm, where offspring not directly exposed exhibit toxic effects. Characterized by extensive specific surface areas marked hydrophobicity, readily adsorb concentrate other contaminants, potentially intensifying comprehensive analysis aims provide profound insights into repercussions on fish health progeny, highlighting intricate interplay between pollutants. We delve mechanisms MNPs-induced toxicity, including histopathologic alterations, oxidative stress, disruptions hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. The also underscores urgency for future research explore size-specific dynamics long-term implications chronic exposure. Understanding these aspects crucial assessing ecological risks posed formulating strategies safeguard aquatic life.

Abstract In recent years, the environmental health issue of microplastics has aroused an increasingly significant concern. Some studies suggested that exposure to polystyrene (PS-MPs) may lead renal inflammation and oxidative stress in animals. However, little is known about essential effects PS-MPs with high-fat diet (HFD) on development microenvironment. this study, we provided single-cell transcriptomic landscape kidney microenvironment induced by HFD mouse models unbiased RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq). The injury cell atlases mice were evaluated after continued exposure, or treated for 35 days. Results showed plus treatment aggravated profibrotic microenvironment, reshaping cellular components. First, found acted extracellular matrix organization epithelial cells, specifically proximal distal convoluted tubule inhibit induce ROS-driven carcinogenesis. Second, activated PI3K-Akt, MAPK, IL-17 signaling pathways endothelial cells. Besides, markedly increased proportions CD8 + effector T cells proliferating Notably, mononuclear phagocytes exhibited substantial remodeling enriched phosphorylation chemical carcinogenesis treatment, typified alterations tissue-resident M2-like PF4 macrophages. Multispectral immunofluorescence immunohistochemistry identified macrophages clear carcinoma (ccRCC) adjacent normal tissues, indicating activate might regulate pro-tumorigenic injury. conclusion, study first systematically revealed molecular variation immune scRNA-seq approach, which a basis decoding genitourinary understanding their potential mammals.
