Technological advances proven to an engine economic growth, promoting employment sustainable development. In Europe, policies are being focused on investments make this "Digital Decade". Against backdrop, aim study is analyse 27 European Union by producing a synthetic indicator that includes factors relating innovation (measured Global Innovation Index) (based Digital Economy Society Index), which in turn yields annual ranking analysed economies between 2017 2021. Furthermore, second stage analysis, three panel data models estimated determine how economic, social environmental development foster technology innovation. multicriteria decision-making method Technique for Order Preference Similarity Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) applied establish EU members according innovation, while Prais-Winsten regression with Panel Corrected Standard Errors used obtain robust estimators. results indicate hold similar positions five years analysed, Sweden leading way throughout, reflects its stable terms A digital gap seen top bottom ranking, is, north-central south-eastern Europe. Digitalization is globally transforming the world with profound implications. It has enormous potential to foster progress toward sustainability. However, in its current form, digitalization also continues enable and encourage practices numerous unsustainable impacts affecting our environment, ingraining inequality, degrading quality of life. There an urgent need identify such multifaceted holistically. Impact assessment digital interventions (DIs) leading essential specifically for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Action required understand pursuit short-term gains achieving long-term value-driven sustainable development. We impact DIs on various actors diverse contexts. A holistic understanding will help us align visions development measures mitigate negative short impacts. The recently developed digitainability framework (DAF) unveils in-depth context-aware offers evidence-based profile SDGs at indicator level. This paper demonstrates how DAF can be instrumental guiding participatory action implementation practices. summarizes insights during Digitainable Spring School 2022 (DSS) “Sustainability Artificial Intelligence,” one whose goals was operationalize as a tool process collaboration active involvement professionals field guides formulation given DI. Digitalization and sustainable development represent two highly topical subjects, each of them being primarily debated in the literature. Although it is evident that digitalization brings new opportunities challenges for management organizations meeting their strategies, there are relatively few studies analyzing relationship between two. Therefore, objective present study to analyze European Union (EU) countries, 2019 2021, before during COVID-19 pandemic. On this matter, link Digital Economy Society Index (DESI), on one side, Sustainable Development Goal (SDG Index) Spillover (SS Index), other has been analyzed using correlations. While DESI refers monitoring digital advancement EU member states, SDG SS based many indicators give a multidimensional perspective regarding development. Results show positive significant Index, effect gradually decreases period. Regarding correlation was negative, but 2020 only. Abstract Mitigation actions needed to achieve the ambitions of Paris agreement limit global temperature rise 1.5 °C or below 2 have align with sustainable development. In near term, this implies a better understanding context-specific challenges in integrating sustainability climate policies during designing, planning, implementation and financing stages. Through review selected studies across regions, paper draws out conclusions focussing on mitigation–sustainable development goal (SDG) trade-offs, implications costs equity for different contexts. Studies show that trade-offs depend how option is implemented at what scale; mitigation options such as afforestation, biomass production digitalisation are examples this. Some could also result significant adverse environmental impacts case battery waste raw material resources electric vehicle (EV) air pollution associated compact urban We find most important factors influencing include unequal access (e.g. green spaces public transportation), high EV) financial constraints. Major knowledge gaps (i) limited empirical evidence SDG-related scaling up options, (ii) extent which benefits experienced by groups, (iii) an local context was considered when assessing mitigation–SDG interaction, including engagement stakeholders (iv) synergies cross-sectoral policies. The recommends ex-post analysis detailed place-based cases document emerged these were addressed.
