The article aims to analyze the pollution with Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) emitted from biggest refinery in Romania, using daily and monthly series registered for two years sites on industrial platform, carcinogenic noncarcinogenic risks workers at plant. Since values of basic statistics (minimum, maximum, average) outliers indicate that most recorded exceed maximum admissible limits established by law, Peaks Over Threshold (POT) method was utilized model determine return levels benzene total VOC (TVOC). Given high obtained relatively short periods, indicating potential danger workers, we assessed TVOC exposure computing hazard index (HI) lifetime cancer risk (LCR). results 43.75% HI are above 1, a different categories workers. LRC indicates 93.75% all considered exposed TVOC.

The summer and winter concentrations of BTEX pollutants were investigated in various workplaces an oil Refinery, Iran. In total 252 air samples from the breathing zones following employees collected: supervisors, safetymen, repairmen, site men, all workers. Carcinogenic non-carcinogenic risk values calculated based on USEPA methodology using Monte Carlo simulations. higher than season for workstations, especially toluene ethylbenzene. mean exposure to benzene repairmen men threshold limit value 1.60 mg/m3 both seasons. Non-carcinogenic (HQ) benzene, ethylbenzene, xylene as well exceeded acceptable level 1. HQ ethylbenzene also > For workstations definite carcinogenic was indicated LCR 1 × 10-4

As civilization has evolved, industrial and human daily activities, such as the production of chemicals agents incineration municipal solid waste, have contributed significantly to environmental pollution. The quality subsurface water sources is at risk, soil deteriorating, structural properties are changed, atmosphere polluted, even aquatic terrestrial creatures harmed. In this chapter, focus pollutants on volatile organic compounds (VOCs), some persistent (POPs). VOCs with high vapor pressure mainly exist in prone migration. potent ozone (O 3 ) precursors that provide OH radicals needed ambient air for generation ground-level O , making them photochemically reactive molecules atmospheric chemistry. On contrary, POPs a type pollutant low pressure, although they can still rely long-distance addition, difficult environmentally degrade very toxic, which be enriched food web bring health risks beings. Both always occur form mixture environment. Different types or numbers substituents connected same molecular skeleton result multiple congeners. Therefore, paying attention overall geochemical behavior mixed more conducive understanding characteristics migration transformation.

Highly efficient molecular oxygen activation over transition metal oxides toward catalytic abatement of aromatic volatile organic compounds (AVOCs) is possible yet challenging due to the easily deactivated surface vacancy (VO). Herein, dynamic Mn–VO associates were crafted onto Mn-incorporated CeO2 mesocrystal (Mn/meso-CeO2) with Mn substituting a Ce atom through an easy-to-handle precipitation strategy. Experiments and theoretical calculation demonstrated that asymmetric Mn–O–Ce configuration induced electron delivery from low-valent adjacent Ce, destabilizing circumambient O atoms facilitating formation associates. Compared pristine meso-CeO2, Mn/meso-CeO2 could efficiently activate O2 into superoxide radical peroxanion (O2•– O22–) at higher reaction temperature (over 200 °C). Meanwhile, featuring substantially elevated Lewis acidity promoted adsorption benzene. Consequently, catalyst exhibited superior oxidation reactivity (T90 = 215 °C) C6H6 combustion via Langmuir–Hinshelwood mechanism. This work underlines importance rational design regulation sites oxide surfaces for robust durable refractory AVOC combustion.
