Abstract Globally, climate warming is increasing air temperatures and changing river flows, but few studies have explicitly considered the consequences for lake of these dual effects, or potential to manage inflows mitigate impacts. Using a one-dimensional model, we tested sensitivity separate interacting effects changes in temperature inflow on small, short-residence time (annual average ≈ 20 days), temperate lake. Reducing by 70% increased summer surface 1.0–1.2 °C water column stability 11–19%, equivalent effect 1.2 warming. Conversely, similar increases could result cooling, sufficient 0.75 rise, more than 1.1 if does not rise. We discuss how altering volume be added suite adaptation measures lakes.

The mechanisms driving changes in the stability of phosphorus (P) sediments under lake ecosystem degradation remain poorly understood. This study investigated P-binding forms from three plateau lakes with different trophic states Yunnan Province, China, aiming to elucidate responses sediment P compositions human activities, status, and dissolved organic matter (DOM) characteristics. results showed that activity directly contributed retention. type exerted a discernible effect on mobility sediments, as eutrophic algae-type had higher content mobile-P. Moreover, DOM promoted adsorption BD-P NH4Cl-P. Generally, exogenous pollution caused by leads eutrophication decline stability. variation was largely influenced water depth. A decrease increased which increases risk endogenous pollution. plays an important role P. These insights offer novel perspective for understanding how characteristics are related loads lakes.

ABSTRACT Prechlorination can cause algal cell damage and lead to the formation of disinfection byproducts (DBPs). This study investigates impact ammonia (NH4+) concentration on carbon (C-DBPs) nitrogenous (N-DBPs) in algae-laden water during long-distance transportation. It was found that lower chlorine-to-ammonia (Cl2/NH4+) ratios resulted less DBP levels compared higher ratios. Surprisingly, after 360 min transport, C-DBP were consistently samples with a Cl2/NH4+ ratio 1:0 those 1:0.05, despite similar damage. difference is attributed varying release organic matter (AOM) between groups, group releasing more AOM. The presence NH4+ appears play significant role reducing damage, influencing AOM formation. Dissolved carbon, mainly from proteins polysaccharides, primary source C-DBPs absorbed by dead cells, indicating link biomass Therefore, when using prechlorination for treatment, both chlorine dosage transport distance should be adjusted based minimize

Rivers in plateau regions are more vulnerable to human activities and climate change than those plains due cold high altitude. Studying the temporal spatial distribution of phosphorus against backdrop warming is great significance for protection ecological environment rivers. This study focuses on Yarlung Zangbo River, one highest-altitude rivers world, analyzing different forms total dissolved organic carbon (TOC) concentration characteristics sediments sediment–water interfaces at time scales. The analysis indicators include (TP) (DTP) water body; ammonium chloride-extractable (NH4Cl-P), iron-bound (Fe-P), calcium-bound (Ca-P), aluminum-bound (Al-P), (OP), TOC sediments. results showed that upstream downstream sections River have relatively good quality, while middle stream section, affected by activities, has higher content body. mainly form Ca-P, indicating primary natural input through disintegration salts. During freeze–thaw cycle, matter affects adsorption release. Climate expected increase load River. Comparative studies between revealed exogenous particulate endogenous converted with facilitation main sources eutrophication risk unveils discusses mechanisms affecting concentrations key river nutrient elements, providing scientific support fragile ecosystems.
