Abstract Previous studies reported microplastics (MPs), antibiotics, and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). There is still a lack of research progress on the origin, fate, impact hazards MPs ARGs WWTPs. This paper fills gap this regard. In our search, we used “microplastics”, “antibiotic genes”, “wastewater plant” as topic terms Web Science, checking returned results for relevance by examining titles abstracts. study mainly explores following points: (1) origins fate MPs, antibiotics WWTPs; (2) mechanisms action sludge biochemical pools; (3) impacts WWTPs spread ARGs; (4) harm inflicted environment human body. Contaminants sewage such ARGs, antibiotic-resistant bacteria enter soil water. can travel through food chain thus reach humans, leading to increased illness, hospitalization, even mortality. will enhance understanding among they inflict

Hospitals play an important role in the spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and antimicrobial (AMR). The ARGs present hospital wastewater tend to accumulate activated sludge, with different exhibiting varying migration rates. As a result, sludge water produced during treatment process may be significant source entering environment. Despite this, research into behavior concentration dewatering remains limited. This study hypothesizes that might exhibit new behaviors concentration. Using metagenomic analysis, we explored distribution risks human pathogenic bacteria (HPB) water, comparing them those wastewater. findings reveal strong correlation between wastewater, subtypes such as arlR , efpA tetR showing higher abundance water. Although horizontal gene transfer potential is greater than mechanisms pathways are similar even when their HPB host associations differ. both environments primarily transmitted through coexisting mobile genetic elements (MGEs). suggests serves critical route for release hospital-derived environment, posing threats public health ecological safety.
