Urban Single Precipitation Events: A Key for Characterizing Sources of Air Contaminants and the Dynamics of Atmospheric Chemistry Exchanges

The
chemistry
of
atmospheric
precipitation
serves
as
an
important
proxy
for
discriminating
the
source(s)
air
contaminants
in
urban
environments
well
to
discuss
dynamic
exchanges.
This
approach
can
be
undertaken
at
time
scales
varying
from
single
events
seasonal
and
yearly
frames.
Here,
we
characterized
chemical
composition
two
rain
episodes
(18
July
2018
21
February
2019)
collected
Wrocław
(SW
Poland).
Our
results
demonstrated
inner
variations
seasonality
(within
event
between
summer
winter),
both
ion
concentrations
their
potential
relations
with
local
scavenging
processes.
Coupling
statistical
analysis
parameters
meteorological/synoptic
conditions
HYSPLIT
back
trajectories
allowed
us
identify
three
main
factors
(i.e.,
principal
components;
PC)
controlling
precipitation,
that
these
fluctuated
during
each
event:
(i)
PC1
(40%)
was
interpreted
reflecting
long-range
transport
and/or
anthropogenic
influences
emission
sources
included
biomass
burning,
fossil
fuel
combustion,
industrial
processes,
inputs
crustal
origin;
(ii)
PC2
(20%)
represents
dissolution
CO2
HF
into
ionic
forms;
(iii)
PC3
originates
agricultural
activities
burning.
Time
showed
factor
more
start
event.
