The deleterious health implications of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are widely recognized. Females, in contrast to males, exhibit unique pathways for PFAS exposure excretion, leading complex outcomes. status females is largely influenced by hormone-related processes. have been reported be associated with various aspects female health, including reproductive system disorders pregnancy-related diseases. In this article, we provide insights into the correlations between female-prevalent Current epidemiological toxicological evidence has demonstrated that adverse effects on primarily attributed disruption hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis hormonal homeostasis. However, these findings do not sufficiently elucidate intricate associations specific Furthermore, autoimmune disorders, another category more prevalent women compared men, require additional investigation. Immune biomarkers pertinent observed exposure, although insufficient substantiate relations. Further thorough exploration encompassing studies essential elucidating inherent influence human pathologies. Additionally, comprehensive investigations issues beyond their functions essential.

Extensive use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) has resulted in their ubiquitous presence human blood. PFAS exposures have been associated with multiple adverse health effects. Biomonitoring studies focused on long-chain PFASs, but these are being replaced by short-chain PFASs or alternate chemistries (or replacement such as GenX), resulting changes time. Here, we take advantage serum samples collected part a clinical trial testing the efficacy dietary fiber intervention to reduce cholesterol investigate exposure Canadian participants. Serum were from 72 participants (adult males elevated cholesterol) 2019–2020 at baseline after 4 weeks analyzed for 17 PFASs. The highest geometric mean concentrations measured corresponded PFOSA (7.1 ng/ml), PFOS (4.2, PFOA (1.8 ng/ml) PFHxS (1.3 ng/ml). Four (PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS) two (PFBA, PFHxA) detected 100% GenX was 71% Analyses associations between serum-PFAS biomarkers outcomes showed PFBA, PFHxA, PFDA higher gamma-glutamyl transferase not measures serum-total low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Comparison 4-week follow-up that total decreased both control groups. However, suite concern identified United States National Academies Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, significantly only group. This observation suggests sustained may body burden, future need sources extend supplement intake beyond weeks. Overall, results show chemistry common this population.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are among the persistent organic pollutants characterized by their persistence in environment, high mobility, adverse impact not only on ecosystem but also human health. The biggest challenges biomonitoring low concentrations of PFASs biological matrices presence matrix interferents samples. combination liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) solid-phase extraction (SPE) as a sample preparation technique appears to be most suitable solution for achieving desired selectivity sensitivity PFAS determination. aim this review is describe possible sources PFASs, various matrices, analytical methods determining different using pretreatment techniques complex samples, well health risks associated exposure. studied include PFOA PFOS, which frequently detected such plasma, serum, breast milk. average range from 1.0 2.6 ng.mL−1 1.9 2.4 0.4 3.1 For were 2.0–4.0 ng.mL−1, 3.7–4.6 3.6–4.8 milk, respectively. significant effects exposure long-chain (such PFOS) lipid disorders, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, thyroid infertility, cancer, obesity, autism, neurodevelopmental issues, cardiovascular diseases, kidney liver disorders. Prenatal per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) exposures are associated with adverse offspring health outcomes, yet the underlying pathological mechanisms unclear. Cord blood metabolomics can identify potentially important pathways prenatal PFAS exposures, providing mechanistic insights that may help explain PFAS' long-term effects. The study included 590 mother-infant dyads from Boston Birth Cohort. We measured in maternal plasma samples collected 24-72 h after delivery metabolites cord samples. used metabolome-wide association studies pathway enrichment analyses to individual PFAS, quantile-based g-computation models examine associations of mixture. False Discovery Rate account for multiple comparisons. found 331 18 were ≥ 1 38 mixture, predominantly amino acids lipids.
