This research paper investigates the phytochemical profile, antioxidant activity, antidiabetic potential, and antibacterial activity of Myrtus communis berries. Two extraction methods were employed to obtain extracts: solid–liquid ultrasound-assisted (UAE) supercritical fluid (SFE). The extracts characterized using spectrophotometric Reversed-Phase High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (RP-HPLC). UAE extract exhibited higher total flavonoid anthocyanin content, while SFE prevailed in phenolic content DPPH radical screening assay. RP-HPLC characterization identified quantified several polyphenolic compounds. In extract, epigallocatechin was found a concentration 2656.24 ± 28.15 µg/g dry weight (DW). cafestol compound with highest at level 29.65 0.03 DW. Both contained compounds, including cyanidin 3-O-glucoside chloride, cyanidin-3-O-rutinoside malvidin-3-O-glucoside pelargonidin peonidin peonidin-3-O-rutinoside chloride. potential evaluated vitro by measuring inhibition α-amylase from porcine pancreas (type I-A). results highlighted ability myrtle berry inhibit enzymatic suggesting its as an alternative for controlling postprandial hyperglycemia. showed lowest IC50 value among two extracts, average 8.37 0.52 µg/mL assessed against Bacillus spp., Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus disk diffusion method. similar tested bacterial strains. support further investigation berries ingredient functional food formulation, particularly due antioxidant, antidiabetic, properties.

The rising demand for minimally processed, natural, and healthier food products has led to the search alternative multifunctional bioactive components. Therefore, present study focuses on functional proprieties of a peptide fraction derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae metabolism. antimicrobial activity is evaluated against various foodborne pathogens, including Candida albicans, krusei, Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella sp. antioxidant properties are assessed using FRAP DPPH scavenging capacity assays. Furthermore, fraction's cytotoxicity in colorectal carcinoma normal colon epithelial cells while its potential as an antidiabetic agent investigated through α-amylase α-glucosidase inhibitory results demonstrate that 2-10 kDa exhibits effects all tested microorganisms, except C. krusei. minimal concentration E. L. remains consistently low, at 0.25 mg/mL, albicans requires higher 1.0 mg/mL. displays activity, evidenced by radical 81.03%, values 1042.50 ± 32.5 µM TE/mL no both tumor non-tumoral human up 0.3 Moreover, presents anti-inflammatory significantly reducing expression TNFα gene more than 29.7% non-stimulated 50% lipopolysaccharide-stimulated cells. It also inhibits carbohydrate digestive enzymes (IC50 199.3 0.9 µg/mL) (IC20 270.6 6.0 µg/mL). Overall, findings showed antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, activity. This represents step forward evaluation biological S. peptides.

Plants continue to constitute key elements of medical practice in West African countries. The Cabo Verde archipelago hosts a great diversity medicinal plants and local markets are considered important sites for trading harvested by rural communities. This study has two main goals: (i) assess the uses native species Santiago, biggest island archipelago, (ii) evaluate antioxidant, antimicrobial antidiabetic/antihyperglycemic activities trees (Tamarix senegalensis Sideroxylon marginatum) used traditional medicine traded markets. Our results revealed that on Santiago Island, 24 medicine. these (e.g., forage, timber, food fibres), their applications, plant parts used, mode administration conservation status presented here first time. Moreover, pharmacological characterization tree hydroethanolic extracts were richer phenolic compounds more active than aqueous counterparts. All studied significant antioxidant properties (DPPH FRAP assays) generally moderately against Gram-positive bacteria. inhibited carbohydrate digestive enzymes α-glucosidase α-amylase dose-dependent manner. For α-glucosidase, detected inhibitory activity (IC50 values from 2.0 ± 0.2 μg/mL 9.9 1.2 μg/mL) was significantly higher acarbose, suggesting both can delay glucose absorption, thereby assisting slowing down progression diabetes. findings highlight crucial importance have Verdean population, while also raising awareness need sustainable use flora, particular.

Nowadays, extensive research has been conducted on electrospun nanofibers for wound dressing applications. Considering the growing concern over bacterial resistance to common antibiotics, investigating potential of natural essential oils with antibacterial properties could prove be beneficial in addressing this issue. In response challenges posed by impaired healing, we have designed a novel polyvinyl alcohol/chitosan nanofiber embedded myrtle oil and gum Arabic dispersion (PVA/CS/MT-GA). The morphology molecular structure prepared were evaluated scanning electron microscopy (SEM) Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis. synthesized PVA/CS/MT-GA composite demonstrated remarkable swelling capacity 744% exhibited acceptable mechanical strength. Additionally, water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) these was obtained as 2497 g.m−2.day−1, which falls within ideal range dressings. antimicrobial test results revealed that notable when tested against Escherichia coli Staphylococcus aureus. release profile MT from MT-containing burst mechanism nanofibers, can applications require an immediate therapeutic effect. Furthermore, dressings full-thickness model Wistar rats care damaged tissue promote faster healing times. Collectively, study suggest developed holds great promise candidate

Myrtle (Myrtus communis L.) is a rich source of bioactive compounds and nutraceuticals different polarities obtained from parts the plant, whose synergistic effect could be harnessed through formulation capsules. The aim this work was to investigate antimicrobial activity three myrtle formulations: essential oil aqueous leaf extract supercritical fruit extract, as well retention volatile, phenolic lipid in low-viscosity alginate capsules by electrostatic extrusion microencapsulation these formulations combined. At temperature 48 °C, 1.27% emulsifier 3% CaCl2, 72.86% volatiles, 61.13% phenolics 62.80% lipids were retained. All tested extracts showed good antibacterial activity, especially against Staphylococcus aureus Listeria monocytogenes, which most sensitive. An exceptionally high inhibitory achieved L. monocytogenes (35.25 mm) Escherichia coli (28 mm). Supercritical antifungal none lactic acid bacteria.
