Currently, Urban Heat Island (UHI) has evolved beyond being a homogeneous climate and environmental issue, it emerged as critical threat to the sustainable development of urban environment. This study highlights substantial spatio-temporal expansions UHIs in China between 2005 2020. Notably, heat island intensity (UHII) exhibited more pronounced increase during nighttime than daytime, with land surface temperature (LST) rises 0.46℃ 0.17℃, respectively. Analysis 48 representative cities revealed that although most experienced faster UHII growth rate new compared pre-existing ones, significant initial disparity hinders 2010 2015 from catching up short term. However, by 2025, is projected daytime will surpass 21 cities, while same trend expected 31 nighttime. Furthermore, spatial gradient analysis unveiled individual variations within different buffer rings. These findings provide valuable insights into expansion dynamics China, contributing understanding UHI effects. Moreover, these can inform renewal strategies aimed at mitigating UHI's adverse impacts, enhancing resilience, fostering livable cities.

Abstract The acceleration of global urbanization has increased the frequency urban heat island (UHI) effect and heatwaves, which seriously endanger human health. We used Shenzhen as a case study to examine daytime nighttime differences in UHI intensity (UHII), considering different local climate zones (LCZs) sea–land breezes. diurnal UHII was >3 °C for 52% period, whereas nocturnal only 26% period. average building-type values were 2.77 1.11 higher than those natural type, respectively. Sea breezes alleviated with linear correlation coefficient −0.68601 between them. Moreover, showed across gradients, can help guide planning.

The appropriate design of urban ventilation corridors (VCs) can improve the thermal environment, thereby reducing energy consumption and promoting sustainable development. However, existing research lacks a comprehensive grasp characteristics VCs from multiple dimensions quantitative analysis its cooling effect.
