Neurofeedback is attracting renewed interest as a method to self-regulate one’s own brain activity directly alter the underlying neural mechanisms of cognition and behaviour. It promises new avenues for cognitive enhancement in healthy subjects, but also therapeutic tool. Frequency-specific oscillations and phase-coupling of neuronal populations are essential mechanisms for the coordination activity between brain areas during cognitive tasks.
